The Pee-wee Herman Show is back....
Houston Examiner ^ | August 17, 2009 | Jenna Trunzo

If you’ve been waiting since the ‘80’s to see an overstuffed talking chair catapult a suit clad man-child into a fantastic like sketch, you’re day has finally come. The Pee-wee Herman Show  is back and this time, Paul Reubens promises to keep it in his gray polyesters. Reubens said, “It’s time…. I've put part of him away for a long time, but part of him has always been here with me. I think it will be like riding a bike - which is not a bad analogy for Pee-wee, by the way."

That’s right; the long-awaited return of Pee-wee Herman has arrived and he is right back where he started…

~~~SNIP~~~
The Pee-wee franchise continued in 1986 when CBS premiered a series, Pee-wee’s Playhouse, based on the original stage show. The series went on to air for 5 seasons, earning 22 Emmy Awards. It had the potential to continue its limelight success, if in July of 1991, Paul Reubens hadn’t succeeded in obliterating his and Pee-wee’s career. Reubens was arrested for masturbating in public, the kind of notoriety children’s stars should avoid, essentially retiring Pee-wee instantly. Then in 2004, Reubens pled guilty to misdemeanor charges of possessing obscene materials of minors engaged in sexual conduct. At least we know why he named his alter ego character Pee-wee. (Insert guttural “Ha ha… I know you are, but what am I?”)
Laurence Fishburne played Cowboy Curtis if I remember correctly.
That show premiered when I was in college. There was always a bunch of hungover guys on my dorm floor rolling out to catch PeeWee on Saturday morning cuz that show was so darn funny. That was back in the days when most college kids could not afford a VCR. Geez I’m old!
Mike Dukakis had the nickname Pee Wee pinned on him, probably by Howie Carr, perhaps due to his slight, suit-wearing image. The old Jerry Williams show used to play a doctored bit of
the Pee Wee Show:
PEE WEE HERMAN: “here’s today’s secret word”
MIKE DUKAKIS: “...taxes”
(SFX: Woman screaming)
PEE WEE HERMAN: “...so when you hear today’s secret
word...scream real loud!”
Harvard Crimson, 1990
>>Conservatives Attack Dukakis’ Defenders
Boston Herald columnist Howie Carr blamed the problem in state government on a group of unscrupulous politicians who use public office for their own personal financial gain. He began his talk with an attack on Governor Michael S. Dukakis, whom he regularly calls “Pee Wee.”
From a Howie Carr column on the departure of Jerry
Williams from WRKO:
>>Even Jerry’s arch-nemesis, Pee Wee Dukakis, was a listener going all the way back to his college days at Swarthmore.
So, when the name of Pee Wee Herman comes up I can only think of Mike Dukakis. (And when the name of Mike Dukakis
comes up I can only think of that ride in the tank...)
If you see The Blues Brothers there's a scene in a restaurant where Jake and Elwood barge in, and try to get their old horn player, now a maitre d', to re-join the band. One waiter looks very familiar: It's Paul Reubens (but not as Pee Wee)
so a guy who was a registered sex offender and was arrested for possession of child porn is going to be doing a kids show?
Thank you. As I was scrolling down the thread, I was wondering if I was the only one who thought this was an intensely BAD idea.
Take somebody who likes kiddie porn and make him a trusted icon for children across the US? Are they INSANE?
"Kiddie porn",I think,is the commonly used term.And now he wants to do kid shows again?
I did some further research. The child porn case involved pics of a 17 year old boy.
technically it was adult porn not kiddie porn as I understand it but yes, since it’s a kid’s show the whole image thing...
>>Obviously not getting enough stimulation at the folks house, he ventured to the South Trail Cinema, an adult XXX movie theater nearby. It was around 10pm, and Reubens settled down to a happy heaping helping of the titty flick, “Nurse Nancy.”
oops—I take that back; must have forgotten about the
child porn possession! I was thinking of the “caught in
an adult porn cinema” incident.
Never mind! So yes, it was kiddie porn in that respect.
He also played a hotel desk clerk in Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie.
He calls the cops on Cheech and Chong. But to get them there on the double, he tells the dispatcher, “I think they’re Iranians.”
LOL!!
The public must’ve missed when he snorted coke in one of the Cheech and Chong movies of the 1980s.
I hate in when some actor uses drugs. I always ask them to take a drug test before I will see them live on TV or in a movie.
it involved more than one picture..
On March 19, 2004, child pornography charges against him were dropped by Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo after Reubens pleaded guilty to possessing obscene images of minors so as to avoid going to court and risking jail. For the next three years Reubens had to register his address with the sheriff’s office and could not be in the company of minors without their parents’ permission.[2]
From the article:
Then in 2004, Reubens pled guilty to misdemeanor charges of possessing obscene materials of minors engaged in sexual conduct.
And his buddy, actor Jeff Jones, was also charged.
Actor Pleads No Contest to Porn Charge (yahoo news Posted on Tuesday, July 08, 2003)
Actor Jeffrey Jones (news), who played the high school principal in the 1980s comedy "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," pleaded no contest Tuesday to a felony charge of employing a 14-year-old boy to pose for sexually explicit photos. Jones was sentenced to five years probation and ordered to register as a sex offender and undergo counseling... A misdemeanor charge of possession or control of child pornography was dropped....Reubens, 50, who is free on $20,000 bail, has pleaded innocent to one misdemeanor count of possessing material depicting children under 18 engaging in sexual conduct.
The original Pee Wee Herman Show a stage comedy for adults. Phil Hartman was part of it.
It was famously taped and aired repeatedly on HBO.
Then someone had the idea to market him to children rather than him being a PARODY of 1950s kiddie hosts.
He was never a role model for children. Adults are free to laugh at someone coked out; the public MUCH prefers coked out Robin Williams to clean and sober Rob. But Big Media is ready to market Paul to kids again, in spite of being a convicted sex offender several times; once involving minors. And his buddy Jeff Jones was soliciting a 14 year old for photos (at Paul’s house if I recall).
This isn’t Captain Kangaroo Bob Keeshan or Mister Rogers we are talking about here.
