MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is in the hospital after he was attacked by person using a metal pipe as he was leaving the Wisconsin State Fair. The Milwaukee Police Department said in a statement on Sunday that Barrett was in stable condition at a local hospital and was alert and talking when he arrived on Saturday night.

The statement says Barrett was leaving the state fair when he heard a woman crying out for help in the city of West Allis.

Police say Barrett began called 911 when the suspect who was attacking the woman charged at the mayor and began hitting him with a metal pipe. The suspect then fled the scene.

The woman was not injured, and police are still searching for the suspect.

Thanks for the update. Need I ask if the beater was from the ROP?

Yes they still make Lead Pipes. They are great as “cheater Bars” or “breaker bars”, I buy them to use as an extension to the handles on my socket wrenches when I need more “Torque”
It’s a cheap solution but they are nasty if they fall on you let alone get hit by one!

I use plain old mild steel pipe. Harder to form to the shape of the handle, but a lot easier to pick up with a magnet if I drop it down a hole.

Ok, despite the fact that I think politicians should be beaten on a regular basis he was trying to actually help someone who actually needed help.

So cheers to the Mayor and I hope he is better soon.

P.S. CCW. The life you save may be your own.

From one of the reports last night he sounded like your average young drunk punk.

“Anthony J. Peters, 20, was arguing with his ex-girlfriend’s mother, whose cries for help were answered by the mayor. Telling his sister to take his two young daughters out of harm’s way, Barrett confronted the man and tried to calm him. When Barrett took out his cell phone, Peters attacked him (with a pipe), authorities said. ...
West Allis Police Chief Mike Jungbluth described Peters as a “desperate man” who had threatened to shoot himself and others. He had taken a cell phone from the woman who was trying to protect her 1-year-old granddaughter from Peters, the girl’s father, police said.”

“Peters has been arrested after fights with the baby’s mother before.”
