Please see the press release below, which was sent to members of the press today, June 16, 2009:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Entertainer Louise Mandrell Joins Morgellons Research Foundation

June 9, 2009 – (Nashville, TN) -Country Music entertainer Louise Mandrell has joined the Board of Directors of The Morgellons Research Foundation® (MRF).

Louise, who has contributed time and resources to a wide range of charitable causes, has offered to support the MRF by raising awareness of Morgellons disease and its effects on afflicted individuals and their families. After two years of ineffective diagnoses and treatments, Louise’s husband, John Haywood, was diagnosed via the proposed defining criteria of Morgellons disease developed by the MRF.

Louise and thousands of other MRF registrants and their families continue to express grief about loved ones who have been misunderstood, misdiagnosed and ineffectively treated. Many individuals with this life altering illness are unable to work and may live their lives in partial or complete social isolation awaiting a cure.

Many health professionals continue to mistake Morgellons disease for a psychosomatic disorder, despite numerous laboratory and physical abnormalities including central nervous system, cardiac, pulmonary and kidney effects, and resetting of several autonomic and endocrine control loops.

The illness has been the subject of reports by major news outlets including CNN, NBC, ABC, NPR, The Washington Post, People Magazine and Newsweek as well as local news outlets around the world since the Morgellons label first appeared in 2002. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is also now conducting an epidemiological investigation of the illness.

The MRF encourages the efforts of the CDC and supports as much independent scientific research as possible to identify the cause of the illness, which will hopefully lead to a targeted treatment and cure.

More than thirteen thousand families from all fifty states as well as forty-five nations have voluntarily registered their symptoms with the MRF, suggesting this number represents only a fraction of the true number of families affected by the illness.

For more information about Morgellons disease please visit: http://www.Morgellons.org/

About the Morgellons Research Foundation The Morgellons Research Foundation® (MRF) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization established in 2002 in honor of a two-year-old child with an unknown illness, which his mother labeled “Morgellons disease”. The MRF is dedicated to raising awareness and research funding for this poorly understood illness, which can be disfiguring and disabling, and affects people of all age groups including an increasing number of children.

Also remember that Joni Mitchell also has Morgellons

The Fiddle and the Drum” remains the primary focus for Mitchell, who’s also in the midst of treatments for Morgellons syndrome, an infectious and potentially debilitating skin condition that’s put other endeavors on hold for now.

You say it’s communicable. Sources? (I’ve read a very little, and nothing mentions communicablity.)

Excuse, please: You said “infectious,” not communicable. Clarify, please.

That wasn’t my article that was a press release. I read emails everyday from new folks who are coming down with it, sometimes 20 or 30 crying out for help. I just spoke to a women on the phone who is so sick, I’m trying to help her, we are all. Many report giving it to others, or so it would seem. The fact is though, communicable or not, it is spreading rapidly, just what the vector is we do not know, but folks from all walks of life, doctors, nurses, computer programmers, housewifes, you name it, are getting sick with it, and from every state in the union. It will kill you if you let it, we had several on our forums last month die. I might be one of the lucky ones, I’m nearly symptom free after three years, but just 18 months ago I was showing my wife how to mow the yard, had terrible heart involvement, couldn’t walk, how I kept my job I’ll never know, but now I am doing very well, but “it’s” still in me, I can tell.

That is a big myth actually, but a logical claim. I have corresponded with 100's, maybe thousands by now and none ever did meth, see this blog post of mine ..

Mr. Morgellons meet Mr. Meth, Your Distant Cousin

There is a reason they experience what they think are meth bugs and Morgellons sufferers experience the same thing ...

Sad to hear about this. Never heard of this disease before. Prayers go out to all with it.

I always loved the Mandrel Sisters. They’re talented, work hard, play many instruments, and could read sheet music, something many of their counterparts didn’t do.

It's possible to have contact with Meth (or other hallucinogenic substances) and not know it. Have any of these folks been tested?

Sheeeze, TChris, give it up. There are infants, 3 year olds, 10 year olds, and stuff very sick with Morgellons, entire families, all Christian, not drug users with it. It’s not meth, read the comment on my About page from the Mom who was going to commit her son Adam, he’s 22 year, they swore up and down he was on meth, tested negative every time, he’s finally getting help, probably would have died had they committed him.

From http://morgellonspgpr.wordpress.com/about/

Mr Common Sense,

Do you know, a Mother of a Child with “Morgellons” just emailed me and said, “Do you realize what this has done for me??? I did not believe my son had this disease and I was going to put him in a Mental Hospital.” It is because of your intervention here and putting things together for us, that a 22 year old, young man was saved from a mental hospital.” Validation is key to healing. I spoke to her on the phone and told her to forgive herself. It is in Forgiveness and in releasing of anger toward ourselves and each other that we can get through this.If this was created by man in his ignorance….we must forgive, then we truly find healing and validation. Thank You for pulling this all together, I just read the last line. I forgive them too, now lets get them well.

Trisha Springstead RN

I read the letter from him Mom and wept uncontrollably knowing I had a role in saving this young man from a certain kind of hell most cannot know. I know some that have ended their life, talked some out of it, they are not meth users, and neither am I. However, toxicity I do beleive plays a role, but so does something else.
