Prayers up that this sicko is caught and punished. The owners of the cats should sue him into oblivion. For once, I would agree with a “pain and suffering” lawsuit.
ANY cat that is “loved” should be an indoor cat. Some people don’t believe that, thinking erroneously, that cats “need to hunt.”
Cats don’t know how to hunt unless they are taught to by their mothers, and therefore, most house cats end up as victims to predators.
Keep them inside, or don’t get one!
I had an indoor-outdoor cat who lived for 19 years.
OK, I have 3 cats all who "found" me and were either feral, or the product of someone who dumped them. Luckily we live in a fairly protective area and yes, they are indoor/outdoor cats. Most of the day they are out enjoying their environment, and at night they are indoors safe, and sound. There is no way I can make them into indoor cats, and must admit, I don't want to make them indoor exclusively. They're smart, and know their territory, so I hope and pray they will remain safe thanks to their innate intelligence. If not, then I accept they have had the life they wanted and enjoyed.
Good for you both. I’m glad you’ve never had the heartbreak of losing “an indoor/outdoor” cat.
I’ve seen far too many cats lying on the side of the road, and seen FAR too many in ER Care in vet’s offices to EVER allow an animal I love to go outside without a harness and leash. Canine or feline, it matters not.
If you can’t love them enough to be with them and help them avoid danger, then you deserve whatever happens when you let them out alone. And I will not argue this point or apologize for my stance on it. Love them enough to keep them inside,
Your need to love and protect should outweigh any “they are cats/dogs and need to be ‘out there’” that can be brought up.
And I lost one a couple of years ago who was 21. Got him in Miami back when I was living down there, when he was about 2 (per the vet). He’d been dumped, and was thin and flea-infested, and kept following me home. He LOVED spending time outside, and was enjoying strolling around the garden sniffing out the smells of returning springtime just the day before he suddenly died of a pulmonary embolism. I have a cat door, so my kitties can always get inside, and they tend not to stray very far because they like to be near their home, where they know they can always duck inside if they’re hungry, or if something scares them, or if they want a chin rub, or if the weather isn’t to their liking.
There are just too many sick evil people in this world.....I’d like a crack at all the animal abusers.....
I'm not so sure about that. I got both of my cats as kittens. They're indoor cats, but they have the instinct and the know how to hunt, and they keep my house varmint free.
And what would they do with live food? Play with it? Wait for it to revive and run? Then look at you with “OK...what do I do, now that it’s not moving any more?”
Most mice can smell a cat’s presence, which may be why your house is “varmint free.”
But a "cat serial killer" would really be something.
They have to be taught by their mothers to hunt down mice, etc? You have NO idea what you are talking about.
Bite me, ignoramous. Are you a Vet? A Vet tech? A Vet Office Assistant?
If none of the above, sit down and shut up.
“ANY cat that is loved should be an indoor cat.”
Yup. Our Noodles, Ginger, and Fiona would never be allowed outdoors. We help them “hunt” with toys.
Thank you!
Cats (and dogs) should never be allowed to run free. I’ve seen too much “vandalism” to feel good about ever letting one or the other off the leash while outside.
If you can’t (won’t) take the time to TAKE your pet outside with a harness and leash, you shouldn’t have a pet.
In fact, I’d be leery about even leaving a bird with a person who let animals “roam free.”
*shudder*
Seen too many of those, too. Euthanasia is not pretty.
You have to consider the ferals and strays out there that must live outside....they deserve a life.
I didn’t realize that one had to be a DVM, a Vet Tech, or an office assistant (quite a wide range of educational requirements) to know that cats will successfully hunt animals even if not taught by their mothers. I guess that since you are an office assistant you are an expert on cats. The only problem is that I’ve seen it (hunter cats that weren’t taught by their mothers) numerous times with my own eyes. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
I have owned many pets over my life time (which I'm almost positive is longer than yours). Most have been dogs and I have NEVER had one that was allowed outside without a lead. In fact I've always had a fenced yard for them. None of them was feral and were born into a controlled environment. The 3 cats I have were different. They were feral when they came to me. I have no idea how old they were or where they came from. Their entire life had been, as far as I know, outside. I have now given them a life that is the best of both worlds. Thanks for the warning though!
They play with their prey before they kill it. Some of the time, they do eat it, or at least part of it. I’ve found quite a few partial mouse carcasses and once they left me a bisected garter snake.
