FauxRock’s fault. It seems to have started just about the time he was there.

Other than this letter, Dr. Antonio Chavez of Mexico City doesn’t show up in a Google search.

I’m not saying he isn’t a doctor there, just that there’s no Google trace of him.

I'm a specialist doctor in respiratory diseases and intensive care at the Mexican National Institute of Health. There is a severe emergency over the swine flu here. More and more patients are being admitted to the intensive care unit. Despite the heroic efforts of all staff (doctors, nurses, specialists, etc) patients continue to inevitably die. The truth is that anti-viral treatments and vaccines are not expected to have any effect, even at high doses. It is a great fear among the staff. The infection risk is very high among the doctors and health staff.

Someone posted this on another Mexican Flu thread on FR as their own story......

I will try to find it.

I have wondered as well about the reported cases at the school in Queens. The information seems to be in conflict; we are told that there are 8 "suspected" cases, yet news reports on FOX this AM said that there were "over 200" kids complaining of symptoms at school late last week.

The good news so far is that none of those cases seem to be life threatening.

The bad news is that with all of this going on, people are likely to start panic runs on food, fuel, etc. The hype could outrun the severity of the disease.

Seal the borders now and maybe it can be contained. But no, we’ll make sure we spread it as widely as possible. Never let a good crisis go to waste.

Another person wrote: Given the volume of daily commuter traffic on cramped busses and trains, this may not have to be too virulent to be disastrous in human terms. I wonder what controls there will be on flights in and out.

Governors of all states bordering Mexico should declare a state of emergency and CLOSE THE BORDERS if the Feds won't take action. And with Ibn al'0bama at the helm, what action can they expect? And when, next year?

Mexicans are going to be racing to get into the USA for decent medical care. Then our emergency rooms will be as virulent as Mexico's.

This is really an emergency.

I just saw this:

Spain's Health Ministry said three people who just returned from Mexico were under observation in hospitals in the northern Basque region, in southeastern Albacete and the Mediterranean port city of Valencia.

The WHO's pandemic alert level is currently at to phase 3. The organization said the level could be raised to phase 4 if the virus shows sustained ability to pass from human to human. Phase 5 would be reached if the virus is found in at least two countries in the same region.

"The declaration of phase 5 is a strong signal that a pandemic is imminent and that the time to finalize the organization, communication, and implementation of the planned mitigation measures is short," WHO said

Wouldnt that mean we already in Phase 5 eith US and Mexico being effected ?

Two suspected cases of swine flu in France: official
Foreign 2009-04-26 16:34

PARIS (AFP) - French health authorities have found two suspected cases of swine flu in travellers returning from Mexico and others are expected to follow, the top health official said in an interview Sunday.

“We do have suspicions, but these have not been confirmed, about two people who have returned from Mexico,” general health director Didier Houssin told Le Parisien newspaper.

“There will certainly not be a lack of other cases in the coming days because there have been a lot of flights and boat trips” from Mexico, he added.

My question.

Seems to be the most viral in Mexico and people have contacted it there from what I understand. What about the people these people are coming in contact with? It doesn’t seem to be jumping to the next stage or we aren’t seeing it yet. Is it losing it’s strength? Not mutating to a stronger phase and weakening instead?

Worse is that people on here are using information from an anonymous poster on a message board as “proof” that things are much worse that what the media is reporting. These are the same people that attack Al Gore (rightfully so I might add) of using junk science.

Every single infection outside of Mexico has produced mild symptoms....and the number of those infected are likely to much greater that the 21 or so that have been confirmed. This is NOT the Spanish Flu folks.

I spent the winter in Mexico....mid-Febuary, I came down with a violent dry cough, it stuck late Sunday night, I had a pulse rate so high I was unable to clock my heart rate, dangerously high temperature... I endured until Tuesday morning, when I visited a Doctor....he prescribed antibiotics, and by Tuesday night was recovering....I have never had such an unusual case of the flu....curious was the dry cough that I had....
