Schoolgirl aged 12 has baby boy after one night stand
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER 25th April 2009
PREGNANCY: The UK has the second highest rate of pregnancy among under 16s in the world
A 12-year-old girl has become one of Britain's youngest ever mums.
The schoolgirl, from the South West, was reported to have become pregnant after a one night stand with an older boy.
She did not realise she was carrying a child until she started suffering stomach pains and was taken to hospital, where she gave birth.
Britain's youngest mum was an 11-year-old from Edinburgh who had a child in 1996.
A spokesperson for relationships charity Life said action was needed to reduce teenage pregnancies.
The UK has the second highest under 16 pregnancy rate in the world, after the United States.

It was the homework that was the problem.
SAD SAD
Until we have more parental involvement we will not be able to combat this problem. The more “normal” it seems, the harder it will be to fight it.
Moms should be at home with their kids. Dads should be more involved with their kids especially their daughters. I spend lots of time with my 5 daughters, it is some of the best times.
The homework? Gees you made me LOL on that one!
I don’t believe for a second that this was the first/only time she had sex. Technically, it’s possible of course, but the real chance is tiny. Given that we’re talking about a 12 year old who “didn’t realize” she was pregnant until she went into labor, presumably at least fairly close to term (since there’s no mention of extreme prematurity or a question as to whether the baby will survive), then we’re also talking about 12 year old living with adult parent(s) and/or guardian(s) who don’t notice when the 12 year old girl in their home is very, very pregnant.
This reminds of the recent story about that 12 year old British boy who had supposedly fathered a child by his “steady” girlfriend of 14. Story didn’t last long, when kids who knew the girl started chattering to the media about the long list of OTHER boys this girl had been sleeping with. Paternity test proved the 12 year old wasn’t the father, and further investigation revealed that for whatever reason, the girl’s mother had instructed her tell everyone the 12 year old was the father, even though obviously neither the girl nor her mother actually knew who the father was.
Right on target!
It’s really bizarre that the Mirror is using this improbable claim as the headline, and essentially presenting it as confirmed fact.
Possibly true in "the advanced world."
Highly unlikely if one includes African countries, where most girls are already married well before 16 and the birth rate is much higher.
