Happy Birthday to an actor who was actually(dare I say it?) a man(I know that is forbidden in our gender-neutral, hyper-PC age). My nephew loves The Great Escape and The Magnificent Seven. When he learned McQueen was a Christian, he said "Cool! That means I get to meet him in heaven!"
Here's also the unforgettable car chase from Bullitt-

He was one of a kind. Neile McQueen, his first wife, wrote a great autobiography and he is central in it. Great reading.
He was great in “The Blob” and “Wanted Dead or Alive,” along with everything else that came afterward.

I knew him through work in the 1970s. He was very intense, serious, shy.

He was always great in action roles - but was AWESOME in “Love With A Proper Stranger” with Natalie Wood ...

I spent 20 minutes showing Steve McQueen how to wash snakes when he slipped into the pet store I managed to escape all the crazy women trying to find him when he visited a mall in his fiance’s home town (Corvallis, OR). Very nice gentleman; shorter than he looked on screen though.
