My wife is about to start Hormone replacement therapy and I have a lot of questions...
Any opinions/experiences?
Does it help? Or a scam?
How much does it cost in the long run?
Harmful?

Are you concerned about the cancer risk?

I believe there is a well-documented increase in heart disease, stroke, and endometrial cancer from HRT, which is why the therapy has fallen dramatically in popularity. If your wife must do this, she should try to do it for as short a period of time as she can manage and use the lowest acceptable dosage.

Suzanne Somers has written several books about it. My wife would tell you that it works.
I found out through a friend that his wife used HR and he nothing but good things to say about it.
If your doctor does a blood test (hormone levels) then he probably is a credible doctor.

Let us know how it’s going. I’m looking into ‘bioidentical hormones’, myself (perimenopause). In fact.....I’m a WALKING hormonal disaster. :D

The alternative is to use a pill that is derived from Horse urine. I think that has some risks too.

bio-identical is what she is discussing...she did a saliva test today and will do a blood test soon

I took it for several years then quit, didn’t need it anymore. It really helped night sweats and mood swings.

My mother and sister have done well on them (as others I’ve known). Hormones can be VERY temperamental....and depends on one’s ‘chemistry’. I’m sure there are other FReepers who are ‘medically inclined’ that know more than I.
(Quite frankly.....chemical hormones don’t appeal to me because of things I’ve read. Call me picky.)
I wish her the best....and would like to know how she does. Let us know! :)

Suzanne Somers is always selling things so I am skeptical of her, but I do hear it helps a lot of women.
Im just concerned about the health issues, whether it is for real or just an expensive scam, if it works, etc
