Time to visit the teacher, the principal, and the superintendent with the information that you will be going to the media if there is not an immediate apology to your child.
If this comment was said within the hearing of others, then the apology ought to be made in the classroom.
I would go have a little talk with Miss Fascist at the school.
So much for that “post-racial society” we were all led to believe we are entering, eh?
I think you must have meant January 20, 2009 but maybe you didn’t. January 20, 2008 WAS pretty good. I got new puppy back then.
My son got an Obama assignment too on the 20th after they watched the inauguration at school.
Here’s the first question:
What was your favorite part of the inauguration ceremony?
To which my son responded:
Seeing President George W. Bush
and gave some reasons why he was a good president
Second Question:
Did Obama mention any goals we had previously discussed:
I told him to write blah, blah, blah about community service and respect of others.
My son was also called a racist by one of his classmates for not clapping during the ceremony. I told him to tell the boy the next time he says something like that to ask him if he likes GWB. We know he doesn’t and when he says no, tell him he is a racist if he doesn’t like him.
In your case I think it’s a bit more severe since it came directly from the teacher.
The schools are totally liberal indoctrinated with a few anomalies here and there. You just have to decide if you want your child to continue being singled out like that. I know it’s hard because we have tried everything (public, private, homeschooling, private again, and now charter), but it might be time to look at some different options for her.
I would tell the teacher that you are very sad to see that Dr. King's vision goes unrealized. By focusing on the color of Obama’s skin and ignoring his character you spit on MLK’s vision and all that he stood for. He wanted people to look at character, not skin color, wasn't that the point.
Oh dear oh dear ... I agree with Carley that a visit to the principal, superintendant, and teacher are in order. However, go to the principal or superintendant first. If you try to address this with the teacher first, that will give him/her a heads-up and a chance to make up a story as to what he/she “really” said. So go to the higher-ups first and work your way down.
Sorry this happened. What a pain to have to try and put it right, eh? But you can’t let your kiddo think this is acceptable behavior from a teacher.
Is your child in public school?
Complain loudly and often to anybody in authority at that school. Call the local papers. Get that teacher fired. That kind of harassment, intimidation, and political indoctrination is outrageous.
Schoolteacher, letter to a friend (December, 1938)
Honestly, if things like this are not addressed directly, then there is no hope for any of us. We need people fighting the battle everyday and it is worth the trouble to take a stand.
“January 20, 2009 was the greatest day in history for ME because I found out my teacher was a racist, and that I’d better be skeptical of everything she says. Had it not been for this day, I might have gone on thinking she was knowledgeable and honest.”
Why do you have to come on this website to ask what to do? Your butt should have been at the school ASAP and make it understood that the brainwashing by a fascist will not be tolerated and that you’re only going to tell her once. ONCE.
Get a lawyer.
Get a lawyer.
Get a lawyer.
I can only say that I welcome the day when some ignorant “educator” says something like this to my child.
If it happened to my daughter, I would be at the Superintendents office with my lawyer demanding that teacher be fired immediately for inappropriate behavior.
Only a racist will pull the racist card to try to appear to be the victim.
My niece is in high school in Georgia. The assignment yesterday, was to write a letter to Obama (but you could only say positive things, nothing negative.) The thought police are out en masse, in the public school system.
