This coming Sunday, Gov. Edward G. Rendell will be all out for both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pittsburgh Steelers in their NFL conference championship games.
But if both teams happen to win, well, then it is all Eagles.
Rendell told the New York Times that he has to be loyal. If it costs me some political points, thats life.
Rendell is a rabid Eagles fan, and is pretty sure that rabid Steelers fans would understand his Eagle loyalty. The casual fans might be upset, but I dont care, he said.
During World War II, the Steelers and the Eagles briefly were one team, known simply as the Steagles. The hybrid team lasted one year -- 1943 -- and was created because both teams had lost the bulk of their players to military service.
The NFL never did register the temp team name Steagles, but they are on the official record books that way.
If both the Steelers and the Eagles make it to the Super Bowl, the atmosphere in Pennsylvania will be like the Pennsylvania Primary all over again -- Hillary vs. Barack on steroids, with Rendell certainly in the middle with something probably wildly inappropriate to say for Steeler fans' ears.

Not the “Ealers”
The Cardinals are one of the last 4 teams? How the h*ll did that happen?
I like Kurt Warner. He is an older guy now and it would be nice for him to get another Super Bowl ring.
"STEA-gle. Steagle, Steagle, Steagle"
I understand the support both teams enjoy...it’s just a shame that the Cardinals will be dashing the Eagles’ hopes come next weekend...!
I was hoping my Giant thugs would get a rematch against your
thugs. Go Cardinals!
No, fast Eddie. What we Steeler fans don’t like is the fact that you are a thug, criminal politician.
I, for one, would enjoy a Pa Turnpike Super Bowl
A more equitable amalgamation of the nicknames would be- Steegles
“My Raven thugs will free Rendell from that dilemma.”
I sure hope you’re right, I’m a Ravens fan first.
If it comes down to the Ravens-Eagles I would be torn, but not with McNabb on the Eagles. Ravens all the way.
Still the Steelers aren’t going to just hand the win over to the Ravens, but I wouldn’t mind if they did.
The Steagles were the WWII team that combined the Eagles and Steelers. I think I have an avi file of that somewhere.
That backdrop just looks so wrong. That building should be out in the country somewhere, with rolling hills and a small town behind it.
When the playoffs started, I predicted a RAVENS/PANTHERS Super Bowl.
I picked the Ravens and I’m sticking to it. Remember those 23 points scored in Nashville Saturday? Use that as your over/under and you get the picture.
If Samari Rolle isn’t near 100% physically, Ravens are in big trouble. If he is, and Ben is forced to put it in the air, they certainly can send the Stillers home sad.....
RAVENS 14 STILLERS 7
As for the more entertaining of the 2 games, if anyone bet money on a EAGLES/CARDINALS Championship game, I may lean on you for financial advice. I don’t know where to call this one, but warning to you Iggle fans. If Anquain is healthy and ready to go, I would worry, A LOT. Do I think Kurt has 1 last hurrah in him, yep. Is Larry Fitzgerald the best receiver in the NFL bar none? You bet ya!! Do the Cards have to have some sort of running game to have any chance? SI!!
And does Donovan McNabb want the chance to shut up all the naysayers, once and for all? Yep. Is Brian Westbrook on a serious roll right now, save last week? No doubt. Do the Iggles have some young talented receivers capable of making big plays? Yes sir. And finally, is that Iggle defense playing as well as both the Ravens and Stillers right now , no doubt about it!!
So in the end my head tells me EAGLES 27 CARDINALS 21......
But my heart says CARDINALS 30 EAGLES 24 IN OT.......
My Pat Tillman jersey came today but that won’t play a final role in what I think happens. Fact of the matter is it should be a great game!!
Ravens-Steelers is gonna be a hard hitting game, like the last two it should be close, Parker is back for the Steelers.
I think Rolle is out, but we’ll see.
First NFL game I ever attended was Eagles-Cardinals at Franklin Field in Philly. Cards won, we froze, Eagles put all three QBs on the field because we boo’d the first two off.
Snead was the first one. His idea of offense was to throw a deep interception on 3rd down and sit on the bench. That interception was intentional by Normy.
He was traded 1-1 for Sonny Jurgenson, I know darn well the Eagles owner took money under the table for that bad deal.
Cards have the receivers and they look much better running the ball.
It will be a great SB, but I predict an AFC victory, pick one, I hope it’s the Ravens.
