The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

Some of us serve by helping our families out. Most of us don't leave sick grannies and mothers to die alone. Some kids help by working and using their paychecks to help the family. Some help with the younger kids while Mom and Dad work.

Maybe someone needs to explain the notion of family to Obama. Not everyone has free time to join community organizations and especially not organizations he will sponsor.

I'm planning to serve my community, by becoming more involved in the Republican Party, so we can get a better nominee from the beginning. I want someone with Ronald Reagan's vision.

Most Republicans don't even get to vote in the primaries unless we are in the chosen states. I want every Republican to be able to vote. The primaries should be open to all the States to participate.

I got up the next morning, and went to read it again and WALLA. It was changed to this:

Sounds a lot like the community service "plea bargain" program for kids "serving time."

I guess they'll have different colored uniforms to distinguish compulsory volunteers from "criminals."

I thought education expenses were already tax deductible. If the first $4000 of education is 'free' then I fully expect colleges to increase their tuition fees by about $4000/yr.
