There is an over 600 mile long fault off N.CA, OR, WA, BC. When the big one hits (you won’t be able to stand up for 3 to 5 minutes), you have may be 15 to 20 minutes to get out of that tsunami zone.

Yeah, but if there's a quake in CA or that area you won't get a tsunami in CA. It would be across the ocean. How do signs on a CA beach warn you of a tsunami coming from Japan or China if you don't know about the earthquake?

These signs are a waste of money.

"Eventually, all coastal communities in California will have tsunami warning signs," said Troy Nicolini of the National Weather Service.
Wow. That seems pretty shorthsighted. Why not have them in Sacramento?

This is the most stupid waste of money I've seen since campaign contributions to Cynthia McKinney.

I thought Humboldt County was the only county in the United States that had signs saying keep ON the grass!

Umm, last I saw, the scientists have upped their predictions of a 45’ tsunami to a 90’ from this fault.

I guess I am not being clear. From what I understand an earthquake along the western coast of the U.S. would create a tsunami across the Pacific. Not along the western coast of the U.S. The same is true of an earthquake in Japan or China. THAT would create a tsunami on the western coast of the U.S. But, if your on Huntington beach how would you know about an earthquake in Japan?

The predicted (50% in the next 50 years) mega (9.0+-) earth quake on the near coast of the Pacific Northwest US would have the most deveatating affect on the US West Coast within 15 to 20 minutes ( 90 FEET !!+-). The first indication of the tsunami coming would be the quake itself, no sirens, no flashing lights or radio warnings till after the quake itself . The tele tsunami, (thanks & a hat tip to the stratergist) hitting Japan, would be many hours later. Hawaii & Japan would have ample warning.
