OPEN LETTER to the 2009 Republican Congress

TOPICS: AMERICA - The Right Way!!; Chit/Chat; Free Republic Policy/Q&A; Freeoples
KEYWORDS: contractwamerica; lowertaxes; republicancongress
To the Honorable Republicans Ladies and Gentlemen of next year’s Congress of 2009

I have the following brief comments:

1) Begin a “Contract with America 2” like the minority Republicans of the House in 1994 when the Democrats under Clinton had both House and Senate. It was a simple promise that said, “America this is what we promise that we are going to do: Lower taxes and etcetera”. Those good O time conservative winning items! The “Contract with America 1” won Congress back to the Republican side after about 40 plus years of Democratic control. So in only 2 years from the time when the Democrats took everything in 1992, clear vision and focus won the day.

2) To the Honorable Senate members, filibuster should be you first and last names these next 2 years. Shut down any and all tax increases.

3) The Republican / Bush tax cuts which will be eliminated in the next year or so and this topic ought to be the rallying cry to the American people. Stick it, pin it, and glue it to the Democrats right now.

4) The time to begin is now! So God's speed to you all!

I might add that delaying tactics while the measures are in Committee, adding additional amendments that run counter to the dims. Keep in mind: your job is not to be popular in the Senate [Good Old Boys Club] especially with the dims, your job is to keep conservative principles alive in this Country.

Put in place minority leaders who are young, articulate and energetic and CONSERVATIVES! (Mike Pence, Adam Putnam come to mind).

You didn’t listen to us last time - try to listen this time.

The problem is that right now Republicans have no credibility and the Contract With Amercia thing won’t work and won’t be receptive at this point.

Great comment! But it seems to me that the same could be said of Bush 1 back in 92. The US was in recession as well.

It is time for vison and leadership and a time to stand up for what you believe. If anything one thing lost the election, it was this. And it is the only way to get it back. Reagan had this ability in 1980 and that is when the Republicans to the White house and Senate.

So take care!

Reagan had this ability in 1980 and that is when the Republicans TOOK the White house and Senate WHEN THE DEMONCRATS CONTROLED IT ALL. LASTLY, IT DID NOT TAKE CARTER AND CLINTON VERY LONG TO SHOW EVERYONE WHAT THEY WERE, SO IT WILL BE WITH THE CHOOSEN ONE. HE WILL AMERICAN THE OPPORTUNITY TO SAY, “TIME FOR A REALY CHANGE”.

Well I want to think we can rebuild and come back.
I think the crucial question is where do we find someone who articulate things as a Conservative.
Current leadership in House and Senate is sorely lacking, we need some new people to step and fight a new Guerrilla War like Newt did 25 years ago.
We need to take the Democrats to task everytime they bring up a new Bill that is Socialistic and fight hard on Principle and educate the people.
Maybe we can but right now we have to reorganize.

Regarding one thing to the filibuter comment. They had better stand firm with one voice when it comes to defeating the Fairness Doctrine. Otherwise, we lose our free speech. And when that is gone, so are we as a free nation.

Yeah, I’m sounding alarmist, but I don’t think anybody is really paying attention to how bloody serious a situation this can develop into.

You forgot to add grow a spine. Grow one and you might re-gain control of one or both houses. Act like you want it. Work like you want it. Maybe then you will get it back.

This does not require legislation. The FCC can re-institute it and there is previous Supreme Court case law that supports its authority. Welcome to Venezuela.
