Ska is a bit faster than reggae. I liked The Specials and was a big fan of Madness.

I saw Madness twice in concert and it was a great show. They were really a combo of pop, ska and British dance hall music.

How is ska different from reggae?

Every ska song sounds unique.

Every reggae song sounds the same.

Reggae has a major advantage over ska: since their main fan base is potheads, musical originality is not a requirement.

Now THAT's funny.

My tastes run more to ska-core (Bosstones, RBF, Pilfers, and about a hundred other defunct bands) but I still like the two-tone roots.

Caught the Skatellites about 6-7 years ago and they were the tightest show I've ever seen, ska or otherwise.

A little ska (and ska-punk) in honor of the passing:

Byron Lee, Tiney Winey

The Specials, Gangsters

Madness, One Step Beyond (everybody do the nutty train!)

For ska-influenced rock, look up some old Sensational Alex Harvey Band stuff.
