I was listening to the radio while driving from Hampton to Alexandria VA yesterday and ad for Obama came on. The ad had former Governor Warner speaking about how Sen. Obama could get Democrats and Republicans to work together to solve our current economic crisis.
In part of the ad, I *thought* I heard him say that a person shouldnt have to leave their home town to get a world-class job. That seemed so ridiculous that I had to ask my passenger if he had heard the same thing. He wasnt really paying attention to the radio and didnt hear it.
Once I got home, I google searched for the phrase. Here is what I found from Warners keynote speech at the dem convention:
We delivered broadband to the most remote areas of our state; because, if you can send a job to Bangalore, India, you sure as heck can send one to Danville, Virginia and Flint, Michigan and Scranton, Pennsylvania and Peoria, Illinois. In a global economy, you shouldnt have to leave your home town to find a world-class job."
Ive linked the CNN transcript (though they got the shouldnt part wrong).
Aside from the fact that government doesnt create jobs and should never decide where private businesses place their jobs, it is absurd to suggest that no one should ever have to move to get a better job.
