Happy Broderick Crawford Day /obscure
Highway Patrol, starring Broderick Crawford ^ | October 4, 2008 | NonValueAdded

Posted on 10/04/2008 1:51:22 PM PDT by NonValueAdded

Happy 10-4 Day.

Cue the announcer:

"Whenever the laws of any state are broken, a duly authorized organization swings into action. It may be the called the State Police, State Troopers, Militia, the Rangers, or the Highway Patrol. These are the stories of the men whose training, skill, and courage, have enforced and preserved our state laws.

From the web site:

Currently, Highway Patrol is not being aired on TV, and the owner of the series, MGM, has never released episodes on VHS or DVD, as far as we know.
Bummer. Let MGM know of your interest in a trip down memory lane (obeying the speed limit, of course. Don't want to get pulled over).

Highway Patrol was before my time, but I became an instant Broderick Crawford fan the first time I saw All The King’s Men.

That film ought to be required viewing every election year.

Last week was the 50th anniversary of THE RIFLEMAN. I watched the premier episode on the western channel. Made me feel really old, but also look back on times when values were a lot more black and white.

Wonderful trip down memory lane. That theme music has been in my head for almost 50 yrs? Can it be true, and it’s the first time I’ve heard that opening to the show in at least 45 yrs. I always thought that upon seeing Broderick Crawford for the first time that he had had a successful acting career somewhere, sometime. Now that I’ve seen him in old movies that pre-date Highway Patrol I have a better appreciation for his acting ability and actually feel sorry that he had to take up TV acting when his movie value had depreciated so. Thanks for posting this.

Officer Dan Matthews never gave a Miranda Warning in his life, and never will. God Bless him.
