Great shots. Both the Alaska governor and her family are quite photogenic, and I look forward to their relocation to the Naval Observatory for at least the next four years.

He said it was the D70. I have the D60, and I am happy with it. : )

Great pics! She is so pretty, and he’s very handsome. They will make a great second family. :o) I can’t wait until they become the “First Family.” What a Blessing that will be.

Thanks, I read a few of the comments, see it was the D90-D40 Nikon forum, missed that. I ended up with the Canon 20D but was sure tempted with Nikon. Only a couple of my lenses could have captured such sharp photos. I’m happy with mine because of the low noise but the D70 gets sharp photos right out of the camera. I have to pp mine in PS to make them their best. Says he used 80-200mm lens. I’d have used my 70-200mm which is about the same IQ but kind of heavy for me. I don’t know if I’d have braved those crowds or not.

I had the Nikon and the Canon Rebel neck and neck, and then I read that Nikon had the better stock lenses and that the Canon needed to get the upgraded lenses to perform as well. I do end up doing some PS’ing, but it’s because I am really picky about color balance. He must have been fairly close to get those shots in a crowd of 60K, even with the 200.

I thought Canon had a better lineup of lenses. The good Nikon ones are or were more expensive. Then once you are invested, it's tough to switch. I haven't used the 70-200 (the 2.8 one) much and you have to be pretty close but it's a faster lens than my 100-400. Both are really sharp with good color.

I've shoot exclusively in RAW now and it takes a little more time to convert, about 10 secs per photo, but I love the way I can adjust exposure and white balance just moving a slider.

But no doubt about it, the D70 is a nice camera even with the kit lens. I don't know what I'd do if I had to choose over again. I think I like the Nikon better from what I've seen. The images just pop.

well done! very nice shots. amazing clarity and color. and finally, excellent subject! I enjoy pictures of dog, cats, birds, but after a while they can get boring.

It's been a while since I've been to the DPReview Nikon forums... It's a bit painful for me... I haven't had the time to really play with my D70 for some time, plus I get serious lens envy, as well as camera envy (that D90 really looks awesome), neither of which I can afford...

But those are some very nice photos. And for the most part, the people on the forum kept politics out of it - for the most part.

Very nice.

I would invite you to go back and explain to some of the obamabots on this site that it was Obama himself that “approved this message” put out an ad that smeared Rush Limbaugh with his race-baiting of Mexicans, in which they asserted Limbaugh called them stupid.

Identity politics is what the left does ROUTINELY.

I would also point out the majority of the people that support ObamaNation are too stupid to realize his middle name IS Hussein. Hell I bet 90% of them have zero idea about the truth if his background...from Rezko to Wright to Ayers to Farrakhan.

Such irony, that the creator of the thread, that’s being sniped at by the Obama drones, goes by the screen moniker of Fidel.

I’ve gone exclusively to RAW also. The Nikon lenses are pricey, because they have put the Auto Focus in the lense instead of the camera body....that also eliminates the ability to have true backwards compatibility with old Nikon SLR lenses (which I believe Canon has.) I am happy with the pictures I am getting, but I feel I am always disappointing myself as a photographer. ; ) Now I can’t blame it on the camera, though!

Most of the people on the photog sites are “artists” so they are hard core left. I don’t waste my time arguing with them becasue they rely on emotion and can’t be bothered with facts and logic.
