I don’t know what her opinion of Beatty was when she died or what caused her drinking problem, but I thought that when Beatty eventually moved on, Natalie was truly heartbroken and carried a torch for him for a long time.

Interesting analysis. I did not know that. The same can be said about David Spade when he let Chris Farley go out with some ‘friends’ partying after he had re-assured his manager and brother that he would look after him at a Hollywood party. Farley had recently kicked coke and alcohol from his system at rehab, but started again that night that Spade let him leave a venue.
