Two more "Spider-Man" films on the way

By Leslie Simmons Sat Sep 6, 11:14 PM ET

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Tobey Maguire and "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi plan to reunite for the fourth and fifth installments of Columia Pictures' comic book franchise, dispelling speculation that a new actor would play the crime-fighter.

"The studio never considered any other actor. Tobey was our only choice and the only person we've discussed the role with," said studio spokesman Steve Elzer.

In hopes of containing costs, Columbia is considering shooting the films back-to-back starting in fall 2009, much like New Line did with "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, which filmed simultaneously for 274 days. Laura Ziskin, who will produce with Avi Arad, had said she would like to aim for a May 2011 release for "Spider-Man 4," nine years after the original movie's debut.

It was obvious in the publicity interviews for “Spider-Man 3” that very few of the stars had it in them for a third, much less a fourth or fifth.

My Spidey-Sense is tingling.

I'm really hoping that Sam will get a chance to take a short break from the Spiderman blockbusters to do another "Evil Dead" movie. Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi... What a pair!

Ummm, have you seen Bruce lately? A few too many beers, according to Burn Notice (great show, BTW!).

Toby Maguire is NOT the Peter Parker of the comics, and Dunst is so far removed from the MJ of the books...I really enjoyed the movies (the graphics are great), but as a Spider-man geek, I did not associate them closely with the comics.

Spiderman 3 was sooo bad, I thought that would be the end of the series. Maybe the success of “Dark Knight” has given investors courage to back another comic-book film. I don’t think I will watch, unless the reviews are very good.

Bad? Pitiful? Terrible? A complete waste of celluloid?

But, the franchise is great and has enough momentum to carry it through one bad film. Now, can they learn from their mistakes and not make them in 4 and 5?

I'm willing to bet they do.

After all, Batman Begins learned from the mistakes of all the previous Batman movies.

I thought the first one was really good, the second mediocre and the third a tiny bit better. I think it has sort of played itself out.

Kirsten Dunst is perfectly good as the girlfriend but goodness she is the plainest looking beautiful girl I have ever seen. Am I the only person who thinks she is very average looking?

When the Hell are they going to make other superhero movies? I want to see an Aquaman, Wonderwoman, or a Green Lantern movie. Even a Wonder Twins movie would be nice!

They’ve made Batman. Watchmen is coming soon. Justice League will feature other heroes. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0974015/

Maguire can’t get enough work and likes money, so why not do spidey 4 and 5.

Agreed, they just didn’t sound so enthusiastic about Spider-Man 3, so I wonder what the end products are going to look like.
