Thanks!
I programmed my Directv DVR from work to catch “The Greatest Story Ever Told” & “Ben Hur”.
What did people do before the internet. (Actually, I remember spending the first seven years of my life without TV.)
Khartoum is a classic, based on a true story.
I just logged into www.directv.com and found “Soylent Green” on the schedule and told the menu to send a RECORD command to my receiver.
If you have DirecTV and a DVR, you need to look into this service. Amazing.
Soylent Green Ping!
What confuses me about Khartoum, was it was apparent that Col. Stewart and the ship defeat the garrison at Barbar and gets through. But towards the end the Mahdi shows Gordon Pasha the severed heads of Stewart and others notables.
Damn you! I’m at work and see this. Now I have to develop a fever, a cough, and maybe the sniffles so I can go home and get better on the couch!
They are missing a few good ones. Planet Of The Apes, Earthquake, and Airport 75. (Plus there’s his great cameo in Wayne’s World II.)
Love Ben Hur and Soylent Green - two of my very favorites. Own both on dvd !
Ben Hur:
See if you can spot the horse being ridden without a bridle in a scene early in the movie (Roman soldiers riding through Nazareth).
One of my favorite movie lines, now my workplace motto:
“We keep you alive to serve this ship. Row well and live...”
Another favorite line:
“...you will find them...*gasp* in the Valley of the Lepers...” *gasp*
If Soylent Green is people then what is soylent yellow and soylent orange ?
Yesterday they had a fantastic film with Heston and Orson Wells. Touch of Evil. One of the best films ever made IMO.
He (Stewart) returned with Gordon to Khartoum in February 1884 and was wounded during the siege. Stewart led an attempt to break the blockade aboard the Steamer Abbas in September 1884, along with the British consul F Powers of The Times and other residents of Khartoum. The attempt failed when the Abbas run aground somewhere between Abu Hamad and Meroë. All passengers and crew were killed.
Thanks, the movie skipped the grounding part. Made one believe they broke through.
