For an extensive look at the problem just read A Preliminary Analysis of the 2008 Presidential Candidates Tax Plans (a 39 page PDF file).
But for a short overview click on this video from NewsMax.comMorris: Obama Taxes Equal 'Mammoth Depression', or read below ... the article Obama Tax Policies Penalize, McCain's Reward 06/17/2008 by Terry Easton
McCain versus Obama. In this supposed year of twiddle-dee, twiddle-dumb left-of-center presidential candidates, some pretend its easy to argue that John McCains presidency wouldnt be so very much different from Barry Obamas.
Nothing could be further from the truth. When you compare the Republicans tax position of enlightened free-market capitalism versus the Democrats heavy socialist agenda, the differences become obvious -- especially to anyone who pays taxes. Obamas tax plans will hit the middle class American where it hurts the worst: in his wallet.
Lets take income taxes first.
McCain calls for no changes to todays low rates. Obama will revert to the pre-Bush tax cut regime. Bottom line:
And its no better if youre married.
So much for Obamas plan to tax the filthy rich. Now we know just what that means: everyone in the middle class.
Well, you say, what about capital gain taxes?
Again, McCain says hell make no changes. The maximum rate will stay at 15%. Obama is all for change. Hell roll back this tax cut to the pre-Bush rate of 28%, again almost doubling your taxes overnight. This plan is especially cruel to older folks who have planned to sell their bigger homes and count on using this income (after their homeowners exclusion) to help fund their retirement. Ouch again, Obama.
Then there is the dividend tax.
OK, youve been religiously saving over the decades and buying up blue-chip stocks whose dividends you now count on to carry you through your golden years. Or, you have your savings invested in an IRA or retirement plan, mutual fund or life insurance annuity. McCains dividend tax wont change from the maximum rate of 15%. Obama will once again repeal the Bush tax cuts, bumping this tax rate up to 39.6%, an increase of -- hold your wallets -- over 160%. The impact on the middle class, much less our barely-growing economy -- are obvious. Really ouch, Obama!
Finally, when you die and have arranged to pass on your hard-earned savings to your family, the differences are truly staggering.
McCains proposal is, once again, stay the course. His tax rate is zero (Bush repealed the death tax). Obama promises to bring back the bad old days, which will hit the middle class but barely touch his billionaire supporters whove used sophisticated tax planning strategies to escape this tax. Under the Obama plan, the government will take up to 60% of your estate away from your children and family -- and pocket your money via the inheritance tax. For Obama, the politics of envy trumps common sense, fundamental morality and basic economics. So whats new?
Unfortunately, the horror story above is only the start. The Democrats are calling for yet more new punitive taxes on the working and middle classes:
Of course, if these new taxes actually are passed, the US economy really will tank, and on the Democrats watch. The economy continues to grow because consumers still have money in their wallets to continue buying -- just. The Democrats would confiscate this money to fund more boondoggle and pork-filled government spending schemes like 3rd-world socialized medicine schemes, so-called global warming carbon credit schemes promoted by Al Gores profit-making carbon trading company, and ever-expanding government bureaucracy. Who will have any money left to buy that latest plasma TV, much less the $5/gallon gasoline and $10/pound hamburger?
So lots of Americans are dreaming of change in this presidential election year. Lets pray that their nightmares dont come true.
One real measure of personal freedom is how much money the government lets you keep to spend for yourself as you see fit. In the old Soviet Union, the communists took almost 100% of the peoples earnings in their workers paradise. They created a prison state of slaves. Its an old axiom in politics -- and economics
Of course, Obamas words may be all rhetoric and political pandering designed to gain votes. In this case his followers are once again being hoodwinked into believing that his call for change is genuine. Lets hope thats the case. This would mean Obama may be cynical -- but rational in his populist strategy. However, suppose he really does believe that what we need is massive tax hikes? May God help us all.
Listen ... Our Heavenly Father gave us instructions about tax, never more than 20 percent ... even during times of war and famine, and you can read it yourself in Genesis 41:33-45.
You can also see what happens when you overtax your people in 1 Kings 12:1-24.
But the real lesson about how to lead and manage government is in Matthew 25:14-30.
Even as bad as Obama would be, I can't support McCain. Unless we break the moderate's hold of the Repulbican Party, we will continue to slide into the slime of liberalism.
I suggest Bob Barr.
The Republicans deserve a spanking for what they've done and for what they haven't done, which is to lead. "Compromise" and "Bi-partisanship" are dirty words....DO YOU GET THE MESSAGE??? May I also suggest a commercial for "'Change' we can depend on" like on jib-jab?
Then a young woman gets out of her car to fill up the gas tank, and Obama buzzes by, stops and adds a one to the front of the price of gas per gallon, from $4.50 a gallon to $14.50 per gallon, and says "'Change' you can depend on".
Then a pregnant woman and her husband enter the emergency room door about to have a baby, Obama rushes in with 100 illegal immigrants putting them in front of the line, and says "'Change' you can depend on".
Then Obama is shown in the White House with Muslem terrorist serving as the security gards, and Obama is singing "'Change' you can depend on."
Your content may be otherwise fine, but why the juvenile and vulgar acronym, bud?
We don’t need stoop to that to defeat Obama.
So you really do want Obama as President? You want someone who is not pro-life, who is not pro-gun, who is in the pocket of the ACLU, the gay rights activists, the affirmative action crowd, and want to raise taxes and grow government till the countries economic future is destroyed or sent into a deep depression?
You want someone who has been making nice with the ACLU? McCain isn’t a moderate. I know he has worked with Democrats and said crap that pissed all of us off but it didn’t stop us from voting for George W Bush. Look at his voting record on pro-life, hate crimes, gun-control, ear marks, tax cuts. He could hardly be more conservative. He wasn’t my first choice but he is a choice worth voting for. He is a embodies not perfection but a history of showing strength in the face of adversity. He went to Vietnam when he did not have to, he stay in the POW camp injured for 5 1/2 years when he did not have to. He also has had the courage to change his mind on immigration policy, on the Bush tax cuts, and on drilling. He has went before a gay talk show host and told he he did not support gay marriage, he stood in front of Iowa farmers and told them he did not believe in subsidizing ethanol, he stood in front of the urban league and told them he did not support affirmative action. What else do you want? None of our Presidents were perfect but McCain is coming onto his own and he very well could grow to equal Reagan depending on his ultimate path.
You have a choice. I respect your reservations but please remember our military. Don’t be a part of a group that could cast them into the hands of those who hate them. They have sacrifice more than all of us. We can not afford in this volatile world to have the military might of this nation emasculated by Obama. The left has done enough already please don’t help them further their goals.
If you don't want Obama as President, I suggest you support a conservative, like Bob Barr!!!
Think about it, a vote for Barr is a plus vote for Obama. Barr cannot win, period. All you are doing is a protest vote against McCain and the Republican party. While I respect your reasoning, your vote will be a wasted vote, in big scheme of things. I do not like McCain either, but I will hold my nose and vote for him. I afraid for this country if Obama gets elected.
NEVER will I vote for anyone who isn't a conservative.
McCain can go back to the Democrats, to win the election.
And those who support him,
Tell me truthfully, if the election was between the following two men only, and one of them would win, who would you rather see win, Obama or McCain. And please do not tell me it will make no difference, because it will.
By the way, who would you like to see as a Republican candidate?
McCain has stabbed conservatives in the back at every turn.
Just as the Liar-In-Chief Clinton brought about a conservative movement in 1994,
and just as Mr. Peanut brought about a conservative backwash in Ronald Reagan,
`nuff said!!!
Also his fight on his war on terror. I do not trust Obama.
Obama would be commander in chief also, can you imagine someone as inexperience and no military background commanding the troops? There is just too much concern on my part to entrust all of this onto such a person as Obama.
More concern especially in that the democrats will control both houses of congress, Obama will basically be able to do almost anything he wants. Is it worth risking the future and decline of our country by voting for Obama? We may never recover.
I love your choice for president. I love listening to Newt. He would probably be my number one choice. The guy is brilliant.
But Republicans could openly oppose Obama. They couldn't oppose McCain, and McCain is wrong on almost every issue, except the military. His pick of Judges would be horrible. McCain kisses the Democrats butt on every issue.
Obama in the long run, would get us back to conservatism.
McCain would only continue the decline into socialism.
