Good choice!
IMHO, Topographic would be near perfect if they cut out about ten minutes or so.
Relayer is quite powerful, as you said Howe is tremendous.
But I think everyone agrees CTTE is their most accomplished piece. The cleanest, and most creative.
Probably the nearest thing to true “rock opera” that we will ever have.
Sadly, though, as much as I listen to YES, even having seen them on the Fragile tour back around 74, they are not my pick for Greatest Prog Rock album ever.
Today on the iPod in the boom box, while working on the house:
John Fogerty - Premonition
Robert Palmer - Sneaking Through the Alley
Generally:
XM40, Deep Tracks - in the car and in the house (via DirecTV 840)
If you’re a rock music fan, and don’t listen to Deep Tracks, you’re really missing it. If Sirius screws up Deep Tracks, I’ll never forgive them. Love the Dylan and Petty weekly radio shows, for starters.
I have tickets to Iced Earth then to see Children of Bodom, I am wating for the totally awesome mosh pit as well(Christian rock doesn’t have good mosh pit).
I wasn’t aware there were any mosh pits at Christian rock shows.
King Crimson - Starless and Bible Black. With Larks Tongues In Aspic as a close second. Best prog ever!
Frank Zappa- new release CD: “One Shot Deal”
www.zappa.com
Good choice!
I have Starless, but it’s on vinyl, and all my LP’s are in storage. I frequently (once a week or so) listen to Larks’ Tongue, which I personally think is their best. (EASY MONEY!!!).
But... Do you believe???... KC is not my selection for best prog rock ever.
Major clue, here!
Candlemass, Age of Nemesis, Kamelot,Porcupine Tree
I’m stumped! PFM, Henry Cow, Magma? :-)
At this particular moment, “Rain King” by Counting Crows.
For those who tried a guess, really don’t mind if you sit this one out.
Anybody else?
Greatest prog rock album EVER?
Guess I’m just Thick as a Brick.
Its funny. Im in the FRG (Family Readiness Group) here at Ft. Hood. Im the 1st Sgts wife and a homey homemaker.
When the other wives find out what I listen to theres nothing but stunned silence and wide eyes. [g]

Spent two good years at Fort Hood and enjoyed all the blarney the Killeen community threw at me when out of the field. If not for that town's outright belligerent hostility toward all things Ft. Hood I don't know if I could have been thankful for getting back to field conditions and accomplishing the set mission. Thank you, Killeen!
In all seriousness, Thank You for your enormous expenditure of sheer will when having to inform a vibrant young wife that she'll have to alter plans(and the heavy burden of that). There is nothing sadder or more personal. That's when we need good lyrics, proven wisdom and positive direction the most.
System of a Down, Serj on his own, Dave Mustaine’s stuff and the Plant/Krauss Project...music will constantly diverge on different tracks and fans will either embrace what they’re presented or not. I’m waiting for Scooter to work with Rob Zombie.
It’s a Metaloclypse joke.
Holy smokes, that song is blazing my headphones right now.
UFO was one wicked band.
Grateful Dead - Live versions (no studio versions)
