Vanity Flashbacks- Not a Drop of Oil for XX Years
Vanity- Google Archives | Vanity

Posted on 08/04/2008 11:06:42 AM PDT by mnehring

Through the magic of Google Archives, I thought it would be fun to remind the left of how many times they said things like 'drilling won't bring us a drop of oil for xx years', xx years ago.

Daschle 2001- "Everyone knows we won't get a drop of oil out of Alaska for a decade and it won't last more than a few days,"

Letter to the Editor- 2001- "By now we should all know the obvious reasons not to drill in ANWR: that there is probably only six months worth of oil there, that we wouldn't see a drop (for several years)..."

Jim Scarantino- 2001- "Even the oil companies will tell you you are not going to get the first drop of that oil until 10 years from now."

Detroit News Editorial- 2001- "Why not revisit this issue 30 years from now, when the oil and gas will probably be even more valuable, and the drilling technology will be that much cleaner. Why the rush?..."

Newsweek- 2001- ANWR oil would not begin flowing for years ... Or as Nemtzow says, "If you want to find more oil for America, drill in Detroit.."

LA Times- 2002 "(drilling will ) reap not a drop of the 1 billion barrels of oil estimated to be (offshore for a decade) ...

Joe Lieberman- 2002- ""The fact remains that drilling in the refuge would not produce a drop of oil for a decade, far beyond the time of the current crisis, and even then far too little to change the skewed foreign oil dependency equation."

Brendan Headd Editorial - 2002- .."It will take about 10 years for the first drop of oil from Area 1002 to (hit the market).."

2002- If companies began drilling immediately, it would take at least 10 years for any crude oil to be delivered to refineries. And once the oil reaches the refineries, estimates state that there is only a six-month supply of "economically-recoverable" oil over 50 years.

TOPICS: Business/Economy; Reference
KEYWORDS: drill; drilling; energy
If they where telling the truth (which I doubt), and we had acted then, we would be pulling it out of the ground and pushing it into production now.

Feel free to add your own archived quotes by libs. These are just a few I was able to find in about five minutes of searching. I'll keep coming back and adding as I find more.

I AM SURE WE COULD GO BACK BEYOND TEN YEARS- THEN THROW IT IN THEIR FACES THAT WE WOULD HAVE BEEN BENEFITTING FROM OIL RIGHT NOW!!!

Al Gore- 1999- `I'll not only continue the moratorium on new ocean drilling off California's and Florida's coasts, but I'll move to stop drilling in those areas already leased by previous administrations.''

Bill Clinton- 2000- "...drilling (in ANWR) is not the best option."
Bruce Hamilton of the Sierra Club- 2000-"..we're going to sacrifice something that we should be passing onto our grandchildren as a national heritage, in order to have a quick fix of oil for six months.."

I don’t have the link, but Juan Williams said this week on Fox News Sunday that it will take 30 years to get 1 drop of oil from the Gulf.

I am hearing everything from 5 years to now 30. The funny thing is, here in East Texas, some of the local drillers can have a new well tapped, a pump put on it, and it producing in less than six months. We see it all the time.

I just saw you where UT Tyler so you know exactly what I am talking about, we are practically neighbors. Just drive along 31 between Tyler and Kilgore ever few months and you'll see new rigs up and down with pumps put in quickly.

Interesting that the Iraqis consider 5-10 years to be a "long term" oil field development contract:

"The oil fields to be developed under the longer-term contracts announced Monday are Kirkuk and Bai Hassan in the northern part of the country and Rumaila, Zubair, Maysan, and West Qurnah in southern Iraq. Two natural gas fields, Akkas and Mansuriyah, would also be opened for bidding, Shahristani said. The contracts would range from five to 10 years, said Jehad, the ministry spokesman. The deadline for the bids is next March, and contracts could be signed by June 2009. Firms would be required to have an Iraqi partner and hire Iraqis, the officials said. " From:

Has anyone seem solid documented figures and timelines for drilling to the pump production from onshore and offshore drilling? I’ve been trying to research the matter for a bit and can only find the same “10 year” talking point repeated without any facts or industry experts weighing in.

Scary to say, but there’s less docuementation on the “10 years” than there is for the manmade global warming hoax.

If I planted an apple tree this fall it would be 8-10 years before I get the first apple off it. That won’t stop me from planting it.

Depending on the rock that must be drilled through, drilling rigs can go 300-700 feet a day. Then they start horizontal drilling and extract even more oil.
