Yes but it doesn’t truly define who Uncle Tom was, most of today’s black youth have never read the story.

Uncle Tom was:
Literate
Honest
brave
A Devoted Family man
A Minister
A tragic hero who almost earns his freedom three times only to lose his life when his freedom is at hand in the money his wife earned to purchase his freedom in the hands of the son of his former master and his friend who traveled to the worst parts of Louisiana to save Tom from his fate and keep his promise to him.

Uncle Tom was not some old slave broken under the whip and made subservient he was a Man of God that accept his fate as part of God’s plan for him and lived his life honorably. The cruelest tortures he endures at the hands of Simon Legree (an atheist) are directly a result of his faith in God and God’s plan for him

The Stereotype of Uncle Tom comes from The various black face Tom Show rip offs often meant to amuse audiences.

The term "Uncle Tom" was used extensively during the decade of civil rights reform to describe a black man who simply did what white people wanted.

Uncle Tom was the good guy.

What do white people want? I can't presume to speak for all, as I'm sure there are some who have other opinions. But I'd be happy to see black children raised in stable families (getting the illegitimacy rate down); not instilled with the "victim" mentality but taught self pride due to their content of character (like him or not, Dr. King nailed that one). And since being decently educated and able to effectively communicate is a prerequisite to success, taught a love of learning (instead of "doing well in school is acting white"). Communicating in standard English should not be scorned; how many middle aged whites (who are as likely as not to be your employers or supervisors) speak hip-hop, anyway?

Be proud, not of an accident of birth, but of the person you really are.

In other words, listen to the Bill Cosbys of the world, who have your best interest at heart, not to the race hustlers who have their well filled bank accounts at heart!

Great article on the unsung history of the Republican party. Unfortunately, there are aspects of Republican origins that today's conservative Republicans don't like to focus on (and yes, admittedly, there was some proto-Leftism in some sectors of the abolition movement, unfortunately).

My ancestors were Unionist Republicans in the Upper South and they hated and detested the Ku-Klux Klan.

The Republican party was the party of freedom, of Puritan morality, and of rural and small-town America. Blacks, now team players with atheists and homosexuals, were part of this alliance. Unfortunately, I don't place a lot of hope in Blacks' return (at least en masse). Part of this is the decidedly anti-Puritan libertarianism of many contemporary Republicans, but most of it is due to the fact that the Black church has sold out completely to the forces of G-dlessness. Shame on them.

Fascinating. This would make an interesting speech to be given by someone on national television, either at the Republican Convention, or elsewhere. Can you imagine the howls and outright violence that would erupt from the democrats, and the left, if such a speech occurred?? Whoever read this as a speech might even be dead within a few days after giving it.

Reading this article, and living in the SF Bay Area in general, really brings home one point for me: the democrats have not changed much over the past 100 to 150 years. They are still violent and subversive today, just like back then. True, they may not be AS violent as they were back then, but that is probably only because with modern law enforcement, they can’t get away with it. No wonder the democrats, and their commie buddies in the ACLU, are always trying to tie the hands of law enforcement. I shudder to think what might happen if Obama or Clinton are elected in November.

Sometimes I feel as if the violence and evil that comprises the left and the democrats in America first appeared on the scene (in a major way) in the 1960’s. Articles like this remind me that they (or at least certain sizable elements of them) have been at it for quite a long time. There is nothing new under the sun.
