Cigar smoke seeps into sandwich shop
Customers at a Northeast Heights sandwich shop have been getting a side order of cigar smoke with their meals since a cigar bar moved in next door.
The problem began when an adjacent space in the strip mall at Louisiana and Menaul was occupied by the Albuquerque Cigar Club.
Were losing business due to the smoke because people cant stand the smoke, says Renee Thomas, a waitress at The Cheese and Coffee Café.
Thomas adds, though, that the owner of the cigar bar has been helpful.
They have tried to cooperate, but anything that has been done is not solving the problem, she says.
We worked through the environment department, the City of Albuquerque, the fire department, the health department, said Larry Monte, the owner of the Albuquerque Cigar Club.
Weve responded to all their complaints, weve increased the ventilation down there as well, he says.
The cigar bar is in full compliance with current regulations and building code criteria. The landlord of the strip mall has even installed an air filter inside the restaurant, but Thomas says the smoke still penetrates the restaurant.
The fire marshals office hasnt been able to determine how the cigar smoke from the cigar bar is penetrating into the sandwich shop.

The List of Ping Lists |
Wow, thanks for the reminder...Soon as this large tornado passes I will be having a Partagas....Ummm...can’t wait.
I moved out of an apartment for a similar reason. Too much cigarette smoke coming inside from next door.
Golly....that’s great... Now I’m hungry and want a stogie.
I love the smell of cigar smoke! It makes me feel very secure, for some reason, although I never had an older male relative who smoked them or any reason for the association.
I don’t particularly care for old cigarette smoke, though; I lived over a chain smoking little old lady, and aside from worrying that she’d burn the house down some night, I found that her clouds of stale smoke (she never aired out her apartment) had worked their way up into my closet.
Hi,
I guess I didn’t realize their was a cigar smokers ping list. Would it be to much trouble to be added?
TIA.
I just got back from a Mexico cruise and with advise from others was able to avoid fakes and then purchase some bona fide Cohibas. Just great! Mrs. steveo remarked hey... those smell pretty good I smiled knowingly.

Call me cynical, but my guess is that there will be no appeasing Thomas until the Albuquerque Cigar Club is forced to close.
I’m not sure if this fits with your ping list, but we’ve got some whining over a legal cigar club.
I suppose now I have grounds to complain about the sickening smell of Snuggle fabric softener that comes out of my neighbors drier vent. The smell makes me sick.
Their should be rules against this, and laws to make it a misdemeanor to use this toxic substance in a drier that others are subjected to.
Uh, I think I will complain.
‘The Cheese and Coffee Café.’
Um...their name ALONE is reason to shut them down, LOL!
I’m sooooooo looking forward to July for my yearly ‘see-gar’ behind the barn. ;)
You know, I really DO need to find other days beside my Birthday that call for a cigar, don’t you think? The more the Smoke Gnatzies push me, the more I want to smoke!
I wonder if the cigar bar has complained about the smell of fried peppers and onions seeping in from the sandwich shop. Would seem that odors would go both ways.

I think she needs some “Whine” with her Cheese and Coffee Cafe >:)
