Maupin's remains found in Iraq THE ENQUIRER E-mail | Print | digg us! | del.icio.us! | Click-2-Listen
Sgt. Matt Maupin is dead, the parents of the missing Clermont County soldier said today.
Maupin's remain were found in Iraq, nearly four years after he was captured by insurgents, his parents said. An Army general came to Clermont County today to notify them, they said.
"Matt is coming home. He's completed his mission," his father, Keith Maupin, said.
The Glen Este High School graduate was taken captive on April 9, 2004, when insurgents overran his convoy. He had been driving a supply truck.
His captives released a video of Maupin within days after his capture, but there had been no news since. He was the only U.S. military member listed as missing in iraq.
Military officials identified the remains through DNA, Keith Maupin said. He said he wasn't told where the remains had been found.
"They found a shirt similar to what he was wearing," Keith Maupin said.
The Enquirer will update this story as more details become available.
God bless Sgt Maupin, his family and all those who supported him.

RIP Sgt. At least your family will have the closure they deserve.
Welcome home, Sgt. Maupin. Thank you for your service to our country.
Prayers of thanksgiving that Matt Maupin's remains will rest in American soil, and that his loved ones have the opportunity for closure. Prayers for blessings of comfort for his friends and loved ones.
When do the war crimes trials start for prosecuting the insurgents and their leaders?
When does Red Cross/Red Crescent get to make inspections of the prisoners and facilities?
The pinko protesters carry signs that call Bush a terrorist and proudly proclaim that they support the insurgenency. They support war criminals. And provide aid and comfort to the enemy in a time of war which our Constitution calls the crime of TREASON.
Get cracking, congress critters.
Very sorry hear this about Sgt Maupin, and isn’t this news, rather than chat?
Prayers for this family. The hero is with God.

Interesting ... any time I try to post a Cincinnati Enquirer article, I live in the area, it doesn't make the cut ... and I've been aboard here at FR for nearly ten years. I have my opinion concerning the Maupin issue ... but hesitate to elaborate.
I'm not sure that's correct. Byron Fouty of Michigan and another G.I. whose name I regret I do not know were taken prisoner a couple of years ago along with another soldier who was later found dead. I believe that these two warriors are probably dead as well. Their blood is on the hands of Sen. Karl Lenin (C-Mich.) who led efforts to stop our intelligence agencies from using intercepted telecommunications. Because of Lenin's efforts, such intelligence could not be used for about 10 hours and the trail grew cold. I'm not trying to detract from the news about Sgt. Maupin by any means.
“LENIN”?
LENIN!
As the father of another “Matt” who will be deployed “somewhere” during the next presidential term, my heartfelt prayers go up for Sgt. Maupin’s family and friends.
Sad news indeed. Rest in Peace Soldier. God Bless You.
