Your father took elk with a 30-30? Must have been very confident. I have seen 30-30’s bounce of boars at 100 yards. Seen mule deer walk away from a direct 30-30 hit.

He did on 2 occasions. I attributed it to
lucky hits at relatively close range but he up gunned to 30-06 for elk after that.
