Any reasons given? There had to be some sort of incident that lead to this in the middle of the season.

Aw, he just wanted that 900th win. Perhaps, I can understand how someone with his intensity would get burned out. It could also be an incident which they are keeping quiet about.

To: jern
Didn’t he get in trouble again for slapping a player? It wouldn’t be a stretch for him to have done it again...and then just resigned. Personally, I think he’s a great coach because he abhors the press...and shows it.

My daughter just called us with this news as well. Sad to see him go - despite what anyone says about him, the man encouraged his players to graduate.
Now we get to watch his incredibly HOT son coach.

I suspect it is a health matter. It is my understanding he really struggled for weeks not feeling well just a while back. OTOH, if he messed up, goodness knows in today’s world we will know about it sooner rather than later.
Either way, I liked the ol boy. America needs more like him.

I’d guess health or issue related to his temper. Knight has faults, but he’s never been the kind of guy to bail on a team.

I just happened to catch a replay of an Indiana game from the 80’s with Coach Knight. I was stunned by how thin the players were in that era! Now they could pass for football players.

Rivals.com corroborates

This article contains an interesting fact about Knight you don't hear much.
Knight always has taken great pride in the academic achievement of his players, and during his coaching career, which began in 1965 at Army, all but four of his four-year players completed degrees, a ratio of nearly 98 percent.
Considering the numbers at most big-time basketball schools, that's quite an achievement. You don't have to be a nice guy to be a good man.
To: dinoparty
It is not a health matter. He is fed up with the kids ... they are just not like they used to be and the parents are not doing a very good job.
