With the Lakers lurking in the Western Conference, they turned to a team far out of the running for a big boost in the playoff race.

Los Angeles has acquired Pau Gasol from the Grizzlies in exchange for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton and first-round picks in 2008 and 2010, according to multiple published reports.

Gasol, who has spent his entire career with Memphis, is averaging 18.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game and figures to give Kobe Bryant a formidable big man to fill the void while Andrew Bynum recovers from a knee injury.

The move provides salary cap relief for the Grizzlies, as Brown is in the final year of a contract paying him just over $9 million this season.

Los Angeles is currently 28-16, 3.5 games out in the Pacific Division and in the sixth spot in the Western Conference playoff chase.

Could be good for them-—you never know how a “star” like Gasol fits in. He’s a low-post guy, but not in the Shaq mold. However, he now has to find space down low with “Big Baby Bynum.” This is one of the reasons the Suns didn’t go after him-—no room on the block with Amare, Diaw and Marion.

Made my day! LOL

and when Bynum makes it back; it gives the Lakers a serious one-two punch in the middle.
I think it puts the Lakers in a verrrrry good position in the playoffs.

We have to hope that the Lakers make the NBA Finals this year!

Why, you ask?

Every election year since the Lakers moved to LA where the Lakers failed to make the NBA Finals (it doesn’t matter whether they win or lose) the Democrats took the White House. Every election year where the Lakers made the NBA Finals, the Republicans took the White House.

You can look it up:

1960 - Lakers NOT in Finals - Kennedy (D) wins
1964 - Lakers NOT in Finals - LBJ (D) wins
1968 - Lakers in NBA Finals - Nixon (R) wins
1972 - Lakers in NBA Finals - Nixon (R) wins
1976 - Lakers NOT in Finals - Carter (D) wins
1980 - Lakers in NBA Finals - Reagan (R) wins
1984 - Lakers in NBA Finals - Reagan (R) wins
1988 - Lakers in NBA Finals - GHWB (R) wins
1992 - Lakers NOT in Finals - Clinton (D) wins
1996 - Lakers NOT in Finals - Clinton (D) wins
2000 - Lakers in NBA Finals - GWB (R) wins
2004 - Lakers in NBA Finals - GWB (R) wins
2008 - ?
