PATS* FANS CHEAT THEIR HEARTS OUT
The New York Post ^ | 1/22/08 | JENNIFER FERMINO et al

Posted on 01/22/2008 8:40:18 PM PST by BigJohn44

For weeks, Patriots fans have been charting the team's "path to perfection," conveniently leaving out the role that cheating played in their success.

* * *

. . . The Post has attached an asterisk to the Patriots so-called perfect record, a shameless distinction that doesn't seem to bother anyone in Boston.

Possibly the strongest indictment to date by a national publication, adding to the tidal wave of criticism of the Patriots and many of their fans.

When the storied New York Giants square off Feb. 3 against the surging New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII

Please, please, please stop referring to everything as a surge!!!

Besides, the Patriots aren't surging at all. If they had lost ten games and then started winning, maybe that would constitute a surge -- but then maybe a so-called writer could use at least a little bit of creativity and try one of the 400-plus synonyms you can find on the Internet in five seconds.

So a few days ago your big scoop was that a liberal NY paper (Daily News) accused the Patriots of using a camera (in the first quarter of the first season where the rule they violated)that had video AND audio capabilities (you played it as if there were two separate “CIA” teams involved). Now, sure as the sun will rise, you take one sentence out of a NY paper and play it like some revelation. You are pathetic.

PS: The Patriots are gonna win. Ha, ha.

I’ll qualify my response with the following statements first: I am a Dolphins fan, so New England is far from my favorite team. Belichik is a humorless fellow, and not very likable. I could not care less who the hell wins the Super Bowl if it ain’t my Fish.

“Possibly the strongest indictment to date by a national publication” The New York Post affords an objective treatment of the subject?!?!??!!

All teams scam each other’s signs. ALL OF THEM!!!!! Ever notice that ALL coaches cover their mouths with clipboards when providing plays? It’s because the other teams are scamming their plays!

That being said, I think that New England should have paid a steeper price than 1 first round draft pick. However, get real. New England has been the best team, all year! If it was any team but a New York team playing them I would be hoping for New England’s defeat, but listening to a bunch of New Yawkers gloat is too painful to contemplate.

I read an interesting analogy the other day.

Think of this Patriot’s season as a Ferrari. Sleek, beautiful, perfect, a joy to watch perform. How does hte cheating scandal fit in? A seven inch scratch on the side, and no matter how much you paint it, polish it, whatever, you can still see the scratch. Doesn’t take away from its greatness or performance but is an unsightly (and unecessary) flaw. No matter their likely perfect record and extraordinary performance, the cheating scandal will be a part of the legacy.

I have to admit (not being a fan or enemy of NE, just enjoy watching them play) that I get a huge kick out of NE fans —the team got caught cheating yet somehow they convinced themselves that everybody else is the bad guy. Kinda like Clinton.

While I like the analogy in regards to Patriots detractors, there was no elongated denial campaign.

They admitted the infraction, took the hit financially and draft-choice wise, and have gone on to win more games undefeated in a season than any team in NFL history while simultaneously dealing with the pressure of today's instant, anything-big-or-small-is-news environment.

What else could they have done? Said that no matter what happens this season, "...any success we achieve is illegitimate."?

GET A FCUKING LIFE ALREADY!!

I don't know why you're directing your vitriol at me. I didn't mention anything about (1) filming opposing teams, (2) cheating by or on behalf of the Patriots, or (3) a "trader." Finally, I wasn't complaining about the Patriots.

My post was directed at the author of an article about the Patriots. If I write a comment about the author of an article about geckos, does that mean I hate geckos?

And thanks for lumping me in with all the others you want to label as "LOSERS." Take a lesson in reading comprehension before you spout off next time -- at the very least take a deep breath first.

Well, in New York! I guess that’s most people according to a New Yorker.

Actually, it seems to me that most people are torn between the desire to see perfection realized ( the sentiment that I say is in play ) and the desire to see the underdog prevail. I will admit that a lot of pro-Patriot sentiment derives from I-hate-the-’72-Dolphins sentiment.

I think he believes the Patriot Act was enacted into law by Brady so he could steal even more signals and listen into their headsets, plus threaten all his opponents with jail time. After all, that is the only way they could have such a winning streak.........

Very KOS-like.

Paranoid and delusional come to mind here.

Awwww. After all the decades of abuse suffered by the enlightened Hub of the Universe, at the hands of Neandertal New Yorkers (they put tomatoes in clam chowdah, fah GAWD sake!), now the shoe is on the other foot. And they don’t like. Awww. My heart pumps dirty dishwater for them.

Ever notice how every head coach in the NFL holds a clipboard in front of his face whenever he talks to his assistant coaches or players? Gee coach, ya think somebody might be watching? Ya think this scrutiny thing might be widespread?

I’ll bet my next paycheck (OK, my next five, so the sum is worth a challenge) that within hours of the announcement that the Pats “got caught,” (GASP!) there was a bonfire behind every NFL stadium, each one fueled with VHS tapes.

I just pray that Steinbrenner bets his entire “player acquisition” bankroll on the Giants. In fact, maybe that’s why Tom Terrific is wearing a brace on his foot, to suck all of Gotham into the poorhouse. Miserable bastids! GO PATS!!!!

It is a good thing that one can not hear Tom Brady after a ‘bad’ play. Reading lips for certain words that start w/ f is not difficult (u and f require specifc mouth placement). Brady has a flithy mouth. Rodney Harrison is a dirty player in more ways then one (HGH) late hits etc. New England sets a bad example for everyone involved in sports young and old.

Dr. Z generally writes good nfl articles and he blasted them:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/dr_z/09/13/cheating/index.html?bcnn=yes

http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/09/13/bengals-lions-patriots-sabotaged-headsets/

http://www.seacoastonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080109/SPORTS/801090355

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/2007/10/headset_conspiracies.html

“At one point we had a good drive going against the Patriots,” said one Lion who doesn’t want his name involved in this mess, but was willing to talk about it. “Mike Martz really had ‘em going. They were getting fouled up, lining up wrong, we were moving the ball. Then boom, the headset from the sidelines to the coaches’ booth goes out.

“Next possession we were moving the ball again and the same thing happened. You know it only takes two or three plays to mess up a drive.”

Matt Millen, the Lions’ GM, says he was talking to another team’s head coach at the league meetings. He started telling him the story.

“Yeah, I know,” the coach said. “Headset went out. It happened to me in Foxboro, too.”

The Redskins game was close until at a critical juncture (early 2nd period) of the game, the Redskins headsets went out in Foxboro. Sound familiar? It happened to Green Bay Philly, Lions, Bengals, in the past two seasons, at fairly critical junctures in the game, all of a sudden they lost headset communication. It also happened to the Jaguars—they lost their coach-to-quarterback communication for the entire first half. Coach Jack Del Rio later said the headsets “mysteriously malfunctioned.” The Patriots cheat, cheat and cheat some more.

Heck, I’m a Pats fan (I live up here, so I can avoid the bandwagon label) and I don’t have and never had any animus towards the 72 Dolphins, even though they defeated my formerly beloved Redskins that year...

I know Mercury Morris DOES come across like a crackhead, but the rest of the Dolphins seem okay to me...they were, and always will be perceived as a great team, but even Babe Ruth saw his records eclipsed. That’s the way sports is.

Nothing lasts forever.

Just like the Good Ole USA, any extended success invites a backlash from the "losers."

The point of that article was that in Japan there was no such backlash, and that everybody united in their support of the perennial champion, and their continued success, so that they achieved a kind of stasis that was sort of creepy from the Good Ole USA point of view. Support for a perfect season by the Pats is, after all, a desire to see a singular achievement, and not eternal enshrinement.

Do I contradict myself? Very well, I contradict myself.

He just doesn’t have the intellectual capacity to do more than to post them. As I said in an earlier post, it is comical to do a search on his recent postings. He apparently doesn’t post on anything else and pretty much has a one track mind.

I asked him how old he was, but didn’t get a response. I guessed twelve, and figure he’s probably using an unused account one of his parents set up...:)

Who cares...

American Football sucks, it three hours to play out a one hour time clock, most of which is run out by one team or the other anyway..

At the end of the day you get 12-15 mins of actual sport in three hours...I'd rather watch paint dry...
