The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Somewhere in one of my innumerable boxes of stuff, I have a vinyl album - remember those? - that has Tolkien reading poems and singing songs (including this one) on the front, and on the back he reads "Riddles in the Dark."
Some dude is
selling this one on eBay - it's the only image I could find, so I guess I'll pimp his auction in return for yoinking his pic.

Good Evening, fellow Middle-Earth Denizens!
I had posted a birthday post here tonight, but more than happy to visit the Hole, as well!
So, let's have a drink - after all, it comes in pints...

Is it a FR issue or something wrong with the images on the thread?
To: HairOfTheDog
I’m watching that smarmy, fake, two bit, ambulance chasing, phoney, J. Edwards. I’m about to puke.
But hello to all anyway, thanks for the ping.

It’s not an image error...it’s one of those errors that FR does sometimes when it’s busy or messed up. Hence my double post. ;-)

Well, I’m here.
Just finished watching Virginia Tech lose to Kansas. At least, contrary to what Mike Huckabee said, it wasn’t boring.
To: Corin Stormhands
I just finished watching that too. Tech was just not on their game tonight.

Huh...fascinating. It’d be interesting to hear what sort of melody he had in mind for some of the hobbit songs.
I’m sure a great deal of what has been made of his books would horrify him. ;-)

*sigh* It’s all your fault.
I decided to start doing a little looking into convection ovens tonight (I did get that bonus, after all...), and ended up in full-bore obsessive-compulsive research mode. I hate it when I do that. Especially as I usually end up even more confused than I was to begin with. There are combo units, convection oven only units, some “convection” ovens that are really just toaster ovens...etc. And of course most folks only review things they either really hate or really like, so it’s hard to get a balanced view of anything.
The internet makes life more difficult sometimes. I think it’s better sometimes to just impulse buy. :-\
But I sure like the idea of being able to bake pizza and bread and cookies...and maybe make roasts or roast small fowl or such like...
