A Sacramento County sheriff's gang officer was shot and killed while on duty Wednesday afternoon in south Sacramento, Sacramento County John McGinness said.
The report came in around 2 p.m. in the area of 42nd Avenue and 37th Street.
The deputy, a 10-year veteran of the sheriff's department who has been a gang detective for three years, was with his partner in the neighborhood contacting gang members, according to Sgt. Tim Curran of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

Oh, boy. That explains the armed/weapons-drawn cops on the freeway when I drove past that area a few minutes ago.
Poor guy, poor family.
It’s a pretty chilling thing to hear over the air - “Shots fired, officer down.”
Slimeball gang trash! I got my Honda ripped off by an Asian gang member last year from the Costco parking lot off of Stockton Blvd. It was a Sunday morning at 11:00 no less!! The idiot used my cell phone and left a trail a mile long and when the police found my car they found prints on it and arrested the scumball!
That really sucks! Condolences to the family... I know a lot of officers around here, but I probably don't know this one, because he's a lot younger than me.
My condolences to his family and the department.
Too bad there can’t be a Gitmo for gangbangers.
What a crappy area of an otherwise nice city. I always wonder why they extended lightrail out there instead of to Roseville where people actually work for a living.
This is the second police officer in California killed by a gang member this week. A few days ago we an officer was killed by a gang member in Tulare County.
I keep out of that area, along with a bunch of other areas. I learned my lesson one night about 12 or 15 years ago when my friend and I took a short-cut thru the Meadowview area from I-5 to 99 at 1:30 a.m. or so. A car full of gangsters started screwin' with us by tailgating, they yelling a bunch of crap at us, then cutting in front of me.
NO ONE on the road, the whole street is empty! We're thinkin'... GREAT!! These guys could unload a few rounds into my car for fun with no witnesses! Thank goodness after they cut in front of me they took off down a side street.
That was MY LAST trip through gang territory, day or night! 1:30 was a bad time to decide to go thru there though, I'll admit that!
I don’t live very far from this mess - near Fruitridge about a mile east of Stockton Blvd. - prayers for the officer’s family and friends. I’m always hearing sirens & ghetto-birds and I’m grateful to God for my dog and my G19 (with a shout-out to my concealed-carry pepper-spray, LOLz).

Can't wait to hear all the sob stories about how bad his life was, and how he was forced into a life of gangbangin'!
Hopefully Jan Scully will prosecute as an adult. Can’t give him death but looking at life with no parole at 16-yrs would do him good.
You don't have to be a cop to do that. I've done alot of hair-holding in parking lots and ERs. Damn Southern women can't hold their liquor.
In Roseville you have spoiled kids who drive drunk and on drugs and kill people, you have girls driving around drunk throwing eggs at cars. how about we pray for the young man, no excuse for his actions but he is a kid and he is in hell as we sit here in the comfort of our homes in the Sacramento Valley. Also show some respect for the officer. bashing the gangs, the area the race is only an insult, clearly his passion was working the gang unit and being involved with the community his community his people, officer Vu has completed his mission in the Asian gang community that he was so dedicated to, Now he has a new mission with his God. rest in peace and thank you for your sacrifice officer Vu. and for the families may the lord be with you all my heart aches for your loss.

Tragic! “Officer down” is the worst call any LEO can get. Prayers go out for his family and for his brothers on the force.
