When we hear, however, of the growing popularity of gastric bypass surgery, the thought occurs, what if that is how Huckabee lost his weight? Could he have had such surgery secretly? Would he then attribute the subsequent inevitable weight loss to his determination and discipline?

It's my understanding that people who undergo gastric bypaass still need to exercise determination and discipline - it's apparently possible to gradually eat your way back to an enlarged stomach size and the exercise necessary to get in shape regardless of food intake obviously takes both determination and discipline.

I don't like Huckabee and I won't vote for him in the primary. But this gastric bypass issue seems completely irrelevant to me. If that's what it took for Huckabee to lose the weight, more power to him.

Character matters. Wasn't that the battle cry of the Conservatives after the Liar in Chief got elected.

If Huckabee lied about his weight loss, then he is no better than Clinton lying about having sex with that woman.

He wrote a book about how he lost weight and if he lied in that book, then he's finished as a candidate for me.

It is not the idea that he did/may have had the surgery, it is the deception and ridicule he has dished out and forced on Arkansas, which he plans to do nation wide if elected.

a human-interest story, to which Huckabee added a public policy angle by also touting his anti-obesity public health initiative called Healthy Arkansas
Use his weight loss as a model for Government anti-obesity efforts

They don't call him Hucka-Nanny for nothing.
I could care less if he had the surgery, but ...

He is also using his success story to wage war on junk food in public schools in hopes of targeting childhood obesity rates.

Following his lead, the state Legislature required public school students' weights to be assessed using the BMI, or Body Mass Index, scale. It also formed an advisory panel to institute a campaign to target rising childhood obesity rates in the state.
Read all about it here.

Huckabee sets healthy standard for state

Healthy Arkansas is a comprehensive effort to clearly define specific areas where behavioral changes can lead to healthier citizens.
Tobacco use, obesity, and physical inactivity are the three primary causes of these and other serious chronic conditions.

No cradle to grave health care nanny state!

Au contraire, mon frere. If true, it would mean he's lying about something quite profoundly and repeating the lie in every way he can. Such a man would not be a viable candidate for President.

Bariatric surgery itself is irrelevant, but constant lying (especially involving a fraudulent book contract) would be a very serious deal breaker.
