LAKE CITY — A Lake City woman who first told authorities she had been raped in a church cemetery early Sunday morning later admitted she lied about the attack, according to reports from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department.
Shannon Ruffler, 23, will now be charged with making a false report, Deputy Jefferson L. Davis reported.
Ruffner initially told another deputy she was injured when a man sexually assaulted her in the cemetery behind Pine Hill Baptist Church on Beech Grove Road.
In her initial account, Ruffner said she was walking on Interstate 75 about midnight after she got in an argument with acquaintances, who made her get out of the car.
She said a man driving a two-door Chevrolet Cavalier stopped and insisted on giving her a ride.
Ruffner said she fought with the man after he started to sexually assault her, and he pushed her out of his car. She told Deputy Carl E. White she walked home.
Ruffner then caught a ride to the Lake City Police Department to report the incident, deputies said.
Lake City Police Chief Jim Shetterly said Ruffner later Sunday morning told him the rape story was false. "She just came out and told us that it was a lie,’’ Shetterly said.
Ruffner said she lied because she didn’t want her father to beat up her boyfriend, Davis stated in his backup report on the incident.
She SHOULD be charged.

“A man” attacked her? No description? I hope she didn’t say it was a black man otherwise there will be screams about profiling, and condemnation of white society.
And the boyfriend should be beaten.
