HIDDENITE -- A teller was robbed at gunpoint at a Hiddenite bank Tuesday afternoon. The suspect was dressed from head to toe.
The robbery happened around 3:40 p.m. at People’s Bank on N.C. 90 East, five miles outside of Taylorsville. No one was injured. No one has been arrested.
Alexander County sheriff’s deputies and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents are investigating the robbery.
Deputies say the robber entered the bank, approached the teller and demanded money. The robber pointed a small handgun at the teller. The suspect (deputies have not released the gender) gave the teller a black plastic bag and demanded the money be put into the bag.
The robber left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. The thief went out the front door and behind the bank and crossed the parking lot through a grassy field to a vehicle waiting on Sharpe Lane. The suspect got into the passenger side of a burgundy vehicle resembling a SUV or station wagon. The vehicle had a white tag with black letters.
The vehicle went from Sharpe Lane to Sulphur Springs Road before taking a right onto N.C. 90. The vehicle traveled to the caution light at N.C. 90 and Old Mountain Road and turned left onto Old Mountain Road. The vehicle was last seen headed toward N.C. 64 from Old Mountain Road.
The suspect was wearing black pants, a long-sleeved black shirt and a burgundy or red burqa (wrap) that coves the head, nose and mouth. The burqa comes past the waist of the suspect.
Anyone with information should call the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office at 632-4658 or Alexander County Crime Stoppers at 632-8555. Anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) could receive a reward up to $1,000. An additional reward is being offered by the FBI.

Not only is he going to be charged with robbery, he is going to be charged witha hate crime, for wearing a burka when he’s not a member of the ROP.
