The bride, Elana Glatt, says her florist committed a series of faux pas at her wedding on Aug. 11. In the most egregious, Ms. Glatt says in a lawsuit alleging breach of contract, the florist substituted pastel pink and green hydrangeas for the dark rust and green hydrangeas she had specified for 22 centerpieces.

A future divorcee in the making....
I was thinking the same thing about this bridezilla....
I work for a law firm and I cannot tell you how much it costs companies to defend against frivolous lawsuits.
It may sound frivolous, on the surface. But when you’re talking about nearly $25,500.00 worth of substandard merchandise that wasn’t what they ordered to begin with, suddenly it makes a bit more sense. Forget the fact that it’s flowers, then put yourself in her position.
Correction: make that nearly $27,500.00 worth of flowers.
Both the florist and the bride were fairly stupid in having a $27k transaction without a contract.
That said, she should have plenty of photographic evidence if the flowers were as bad as she claims. Our cake was blatantly wrong - we submitted a picture of the cake plus the one we selected to the baker the second we got back from the honeymoon and received a nice refund.
The florist also screwed up by ignoring the repeated emails. If you’re in a service industry, you should make sure your service is up to par or your reputation will suffer.
Anybody that spent $1,250 per centerpiece is an idiot from the ‘get go’.
Trust an old married guy, you would be far better off if you took that huge pile of cash she wants to convert into a picture album and invest it into real estate. When you are both ready to retire, you will be able to.
Yeah, I don’t see breach of contract frivolous at all, if that’s what happened here.
What's so awful about expecting what you ask, contract and PAY for?
That may well be. But someone paying for goods and/or services is entitled to get what they pay for, no?
If you read the article, the 27k was for all the flowers. The bride asked for a $4000 refund - the centerpieces.
Florist ignored the email and now is getting hit with a $400k lawsuit. This florist won’t be in business for long.
This was a very high end wedding and reception, judging from the nearly $30k she spent on flowers alone. I used to own a shop specializing in weddings, and know how the right designs make or break the decor. The wrong colors and brown, wilted products is inexcusable. Florists should always explain to customers that flowers are a product of nature and the colors available week-to-week will vary in certain varieties. If color has to be exact, you need to choose a type of flower that is pretty consistently available.
A wedding is supposed to be a once in a lifetime experience and when spending the amount of money that his couple did ... they should have received a satisfactory outcome with the flowers. If everything she says is true, it was a traumatic experience for her.
I’m not sure how you “breach” a contract if there was never a contract.
I can’t imagine anybody paying $27,000 for flowers that will be dead in a weak. That would have paid for a couple of years of the Frost’s insurance premiums.
But if the flowers really were substandard, and they have pictures, I would expect a refund would be in order.
Without a contract, I can’t see how the bride could do ANY better than to obtain part of her payment back, based on some judge’s decision as to how much the flowers which WERE provided were reasonably worth relative to how much they would be worth if they had not been flawed.
I could hear Judge Wampner awarding the bride the $4000 she apparently asked for originally, if the flowers were really wilted.
One would imagine that, after a $27K transaction, there’s something more in writing than just a receipt. If not, the shop owner is as stupid as the bride.
No doubt.
Thanks, I just extrapolated using the numbers posted.
This is what happens when narcissism and a law license meet.I fear that the groom is in for forty miles of bad road with this.....gal.
