Mitt Romney wants partnership with Red China!

Posted on 08/29/2007 5:09:04 PM PDT by Sun

Yesterday I heard Laura Ingraham interview Mitt Romney, and Romney said that we need a partnership with China. This is the 2nd time I heard Romney say that on Ingraham's show, so he is quite adamant about it.

We already have an approximately $275 BILLION trade deficit with Red China each year, so what more does Romney want? He just doesn’t get it.

Red China has a yearly $275 BILLION trade deficit in which to build it's military, and they are NOT our friend.

Maybe by partnership, he is referring to a more equal trade balance?

He just doesn’t get it.

Or you just don't get it. What does "partnership" mean anyway? That's one of those throw away words that mean nothing. If he said "I want to sell the United States of America to the Communist Chinese", then I'd be a bit worried. But only a bit worried, because any prez that wanted to do such a thing would never get it through congress or past any decent court, so it wouldn't happen. And he wouldn't get elected in the first place.

“Only one man in the race that I trust to “deal” with China and it ain’t Mitt.”

Duncan Hunter, 1/25/07

“I thought that Republicans didn’t appease communists, and that’s what we did,” he said.

“Today starts the time for choosing – for every American manufacturer and laborer. You can either choose to give into China’s cheating – or you can choose to join me to enforce fair trade.”

He didn’t say that. Romney sounds as if he wants a stronger partnership with China.

I suspect he uses the term “partnership” because it’s an easy word to twist into a new meaning when the GOP figures out that the China issue isn’t going away.

I couldn’t figure out what the heck Romney meant. When Laura Ingraham reminded him about the human rights abuses in China, etc., Romney agreed, but STILL said we need partnership with China. That really scares me.

I really enjoyed the day Laura beat up on Tony Snow about China becoming a democracy. It happened to be the same day a Chinese official proclaimed that democracy is at least 100 years away in China.

I’m surprised at Tony Snow. I did hear Laura beat him up re: amnesty, but I didn’t know Snow thought that China was becoming a democracy.

Where are the signs of this in China? My goodness.

And the same day a Chinese official proclaimed that democracy is at least 100 years away in China. LOL

You still didn't define 'partnership.'

Stating that Romney seems to want a "stronger partnership" is little more than stating that he wants a partnership--obvious, hence the point of the article/thread.

A partnership with the PRC is not necessarily a bad thing--depending on what Romney was referring to as 'partnership'--especially at this point when the American economy is becoming more and more intertwined with the PRC's.

The United States ostensibly restarted trade with China because capitalism supposedly would lead to a more representative government. Sort of skeptical, but if the Chinese and American economies are more intertwined, not only would the United States find declaring war on China difficult, but also the other way around. To ward off social unrest, China is trying to keep up economic growth. A war with the United States would cut off one of China's main trade partners, and if the war goes particularly badly, China has one of the largest amounts of reserve dollars (around $trillion) of Earth's states. If the dollar devalues rapidly, the impact would also hit the Chinese.

And maybe capitalism will lead to a freer China. Interactions with freer countries through trade, the internet, and tourism could lead to change in China.
