Need help with my wireless router
08/06/2007 | me

Posted on 08/06/2007 6:38:57 PM PDT by Tuscaloosa Goldfinch

I accidently made my wireless router "secure" which I did not want to do. The only being who might want to use my signal would be a deer or turkey. Or maybe a coyote. Anyway, how do I "un-enable" the security feature? Do I need to delete the software and reload it? TIA

Unless you entered a password it should still be ok, just hit enter.

What kind of router is it — make and model?

Shoot me some FReepmail. If it’s one of the two standard wireless routers and you know what the admin password is, I may be able to help.

It keeps asking for a network key. I’ve tried pushing the reset button.

I don’t have an admin password - I accidently did this yesterday after a red eye flight with no sleep.

OK, it’s a Linksys. Have you installed Network Address Translation?

I have the same router, just push and hold the reset button until the lights flash. Then run the software again.

by the way, the admin password is “admin”, no user name. you can access it by typing 192.168.1.1 in your address bar.

Go to the LinkSys web site—download the EasyLink Advisor—foloow the instructions. Works like a charm.

You have FReepmail with the way to reset it, the number to type and the default password. Hope it helps. Good luck!

It’s a WRT54G

That's a Linksys unit. It came with a CD. Place the CD in the CD drive and the configuration utility should come up. Go through it step by step and simply configure it as unsecured (No WEP or WPA).

I would ask if you’re logged in, but apparently you already are...
