Real tough guy. With any luck the same thing will happen to him in jail.
I only have to fight off insects and obnoxious jet skies where I go.
American fisheries could do with a great deal fewer seals and sea lions!
Lock him up for a very long time.
A friend of mine and I were surfing off Ventura one Christmas morning (YEAH CALIFORNIA!). Both of us were in wetsuits. I just came in onto the rocks (tide was coming in) and he was right behind me when a sea lion decided he was a GIRL sea lion. Barely got away with his life. Busted his teeth up, and nearly drowned him. Concusion, the whole nine yards. I had to drag him up to the car. While it was happening, I was throwing rocks and yelling bloody murder along with a couple other surfers. Finally, it just took off. I don’t think stabbing one for bait stealing is necessarily a good thing, even though I fish quite a bit and even attend a woman’s fishing club. But if it’s comin’ in for lovin’, I’m using a 12 gauge.
Had it not been for the Austrian, Mr. Nguyen could have eliminated the pest with a single shot from a 50 cal BMG, precluding the need for the risky lunge with a kitchen knife followed by a painful euthanasia procedure.
I think a lot of you are missing the point.
This really is about respecting the rule of law and basic principles of responsible citizenship.
Doesn’t matter if you hate sealions or love them.
If there is a law against killing them in this manner then the guy should have the book thrown at him. period.
If the sealions are becoming a serious nuisance and threatening real property then I’m sure that a legal means for dealing with them will become necessary.
Either a relocation program or a limited hunting permit is the most likely solution.
It’s pretty clear this asshat has a serious problem with anger management.
Thank God it wasn’t someone’s dog that came over and swiped a piece of bait from this friggin jerk’s bucket.
My personal view is just because God gave us dominion over the animals doesn’t mean it’s ok to indiscriminantly slaughter them just cause we’re having a bad day.
(Unless of course you have a permit and intend to actually eat or use it after killing it.)
;)
Hmpf. no real smilies on this forum, huh?
BTW, Hi everyone. This is my first post here.
Figured I’d jump into a nice light topic first before any serious political debate.
I will now pose the requisite Cajun response:
“What does sea lion taste like?”
He had no right to stab a wild animal. Even a deer cannot be hunted this way. The human killer obviously lost his temper. He should have been restrained by anyone close by.
Vietnamese fisherman do not play by our rules. They are more trouble to ordinary fisherman in the Gulf Coats area than sea lions ever thought of being.
This story smells fishy. Pun intended.
It's a shame though, that they had to put it down.

Thank God they did the humne thing for the animal.
