blam, that is a very interesting question. The Washington family (originally "D' Wessington") has had their paternal line traced back through the descendants of
Niall of the Nine Hostages. The genealgic maps go back to this 4th Century Celt, and the haplotype for this group is the Cro-Magnon R1b (which is mine, and , I believe yours). When I looked at the subtyping of mine I was hoping to find that I was a Niall of the Nine descendant, but I was three loci off. My haplo was identical to many men of the Mahoney, Pickering and Nickel (Nichol and others) clans.
A note to men named O'Neil or O'Neal, etc.: It is likely that you share a Y-chromosome with the Father of Our Country. Not bad.
The big takeaway, however, is that The General comes from a Celtic male line and not Anglo-Saxon or Norman French (and yes, all, I realize that the Y-chromosome is a small part of our genome and other tribes may have contributd more to Washington's makeup).
