Floating House Staying Dry near Lake Texoma

POTTSBORO, TX -- A homeowner who lives near the shores of Lake Texoma has figured out a way to keep his home high and dry while the rest of his neighborhood is underwater.

Rick Park and his wife Brenda own a double-wide mobile home in Pottsboro, a community 80 miles north of Dallas, and it's the only home still visible in his neighborhood.

The Park's daughter, Christina Martin of Rowlett, told FOX 4 that 2 years ago, her father renovated the home including the addition of four posts underneath all four corners.

Knowing he lived in a flood plain, Park designed the posts so that they would extend and raise the home if there was flooding.

Park's invention proved very handy this week when Lake Texoma started overflowing its banks.

After the home was raised, Park and family members helped him attach styrofoam underneath. Martin said it's the same styrofoam used on docks and every inch under the home is covered.

Park and his wife were still living in their floating house up until Wednesday but decided to move out temporarily. Using a boat, they moved out everything they could but had to leave behind bigger items like furniture.

"Everything's still intact," Martin said, "and there aren't any cracks inside." And the home is still dry, for now, even though floodwaters are lapping at the foundation.

A definite “Attaboy” to Rick Park and his wife Brenda.
I wonder if he would be interested in the Mayor’s job in New Orleans...

“Row, row, row your house, gently down the stream”

In all seriousness, I feel for those people affected by all that water. I hope they all pull through this alright some day.

Now he was thinking. I would feel unsettled with all that water around me. Would make it difficult to sleep at night thinking it might suddenly fall or something.
