I lived in the Va Beach area and we got our shrimp from the gulf stream off our coast and mostly I think they came from the boats out of Oregon Inlet, NC (Nags Head area) - there are two grocery stores out here that sell frozen Gulf shrimp in the fish dept., but not year round. Interesting about the farm raised ones in power plant water, can you imagine how big they would be if it was a nuclear plant, why the very word “shrimp” would be an oxymoron.

They say this pond water is warm year around and that is what makes them grow.

Strange thing here, we get a LOT of shrimp shipped in from Mexico, yep. Some states are baring the Mexican shrimp but how in the world would you know where they come from, don’t see a license plate on their rear.

I want to say they are tiger shrimp, not sure. My shrimp comes straight from the shrimp boats when they come in, fresh and have the pick of the catch. In fact, I had a shrimp boat at one time running a undercover operation for marine companies, buying diesel from from
the tow boats for 15, 20 cents a gallon. I shrimped on the side for fun while working.
