You can usually spook off a Montana black bear with a few loud noises...

Loud noises....
Like a few well placed .45ACP rounds...

I simply do NOT understand these camping activities in primitive areas (spelled bear h-a-b-i-t-a-t)....

..Without posting alert, well-equipped & armed adults to provide physical security... as these young people sleep....

Common sense eludes us again...

Uh... 'cuz it's more fun than camping in the city? I hate to break it to you, but people have been doing it for a really long time. Sometimes life isn't about perfect safety.

“Common sense eludes us again...”

Common sense is an endangered species in America.

Not too many people who are prepared ever become human skins in a bear den. It is usually the clueless liberals who are more afraid of firearms than bears that become bear food. Its very sad to see a young innocent child become the victim of the parents stupidity.

Call me old fashioned, but boys should learn outdoor survival from their real, natural fathers (the ones who care for and love them), not the second replacement step father who may or not really want to protect them.

flame away libs!

Yup. I never go camping without a hog leg.

Common sense elludes those who feed the bears and turn them into monsters and those FS employees who trap them and turn them loose to teach bad habits to the truly wild bears instead of killing them.

I consider this poor management much in the matter of allowing artificially managed wolf packs to prey on trapped Yellowstone bison and calling it “natural”.

I've been following Bear attacks for years. They are happening in the Smokies.

My opinion is the Black Bears are too many in population, and they are running out of food.

Anybody who goes to a National Forest with out a Firearm is out of their mind.
