Oh.My.God.
Never again will I accuse a man of hyperbole when he says American courts devalue male lives.
This is as bad as the days when men could kill wives if they claimed they caught them cheating.

Is this the one that shot her sleeping husband in the back because he was mentally abusive according to her? If so, 60 days in the loony bin is outragous.

...the days when men could kill wives if they claimed they caught them cheating. Women could do the same......My step-father killed his first wife and her lover when he caught them both in bed at home, back in the 50's. IIRC, the CA law at the time said you had to kill both and had to be found "in the act". He was not charged.........

Paris is now back to the full 45 days, while Mary W. gets 60 for murder.
Hopefully someone in the media will pick up on this. The Winkler family must be devastated, and rightfully so.

The three years is the technical sentence, but it’s split between incarceration and probation. In theory it’s 210 days in custody, split 60 days in the mental hospital, 150 days incarcerated. The catch is that she has already done 150 days.
So it’s really just 60 days in the looney bin.

Well, she did have to wear stripper boots! Farese is a known quanity in the area as a good lawyer. I went to school with his sister.

Shot husband in back while sleeping. No evidence she was abused, only her word....
To: navysealdad
I have been very surprised at my reaction to Mary’s case.
Found myself very sympathetic. I think it was the smug look on her in laws faces.
To: Sybeck1
You are right, Mary had the best defense that money could buy.
(I think that they did it for free)

His parents were no doubt told
not to show emotion.
Whatever she was told, I always saw a very hardened look on her face....even during the sentencing.
The children are with his parents.....they don't have it easy.
60 days for shooting a sleeping man in the back........words fail me.

Mary Winkler's husband made her dress up in high heels and act sexy, so she shot him in the back with a shotgun while he was sleeping, killing him. Poor little thing...let's give her time served and 60 days in a hospital room, and then let her get back to her kids and re-start her life without that overbearing husband in the way.
Un-frickin'-believable.
To: Verloona Ti
It has always been much harder to convict a woman in America, particularly an attractive woman.
I recently read a book about sensational murder cases in Chicago during the 20s.
Several open and shut cases where women murdered their husbands in cold blood. Acquitted by the all male juries.
The musical and movie Chicago were (very) loosely based on these cases.

This reminds me of a movie can’t remember name starred that guy that used to be married to Cindy Crawford—Geer or something like that, he defends this guy and gets him off. The guy acts so dumb and innocent, then after he is found innocent, they found out what a really evil person the defendant was. Winkler looks sneaky to me. A lot isn’t right with that woman. She wants her kids, the question is do they want her.
Oh horror of horrors he made her wear a wig and platform shoes. (According to her)

Primal Fear and it’s got one of the best ending of any movie ever. Edward Norton should have gotten the Oscar for that role.
Sneaky Mary’s judge probably didn’t see the photos of Mary in the cheesy lounge, downing a few drinking and smoking a cigarette while perched on a barstool with the “come hither” look on her face. WHILE OUT ON BAIL FOR MURDER. She’s an even better actress than Ed Norton.

Honestly, she'd be a "7" or an "8" at one of the colleges/universities
affiliated with the mainstream Churches of Christ.
With the exception of Pepperdine University in Los Angeles.

No, correct. She got three years but credit for time served which would give her less than a year to finish in jail.
But the judge held open that she could serve that time in a mental institution.
I live near Nashville and the local reporting is better on this than Court TV.

Similar to another pastors wife in St. Petersburg Florida who stabbed her husband in the femoral artery while he was sleeping. Claimed that he had “abused” her. Court bought it and she got a short term and then was released.
Happened about six or seven years ago, IIRC.

She’s really lucky she didn’t anger Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald or go before Judge Reggie for sentencing - she might have actually been sentenced for murder!

An interesting note is that the prosecutor and the judge both live, and go to the same church in an other county.

Isn't Pepperdine a Nazarene school?
It was founded with $$$ from Pepperdine, the guy who founded
the Western Auto chain.
It is comes in for plenty of criticism for being too liberal
by the flyover-country Church of Christ members...but when I worked
a while in LA, everyone I met thought of it as a hotbed of
right-wing Christian fundamentalist militia members!
(I suspect a lot of that is jealous UCLA folks that look at
that Malibu campus whenever they drive up the Pacific Coast Highway...
and realize UCLA turned down a proposal to move UCLA to Malibu in
the post WWII era.)
I have a cousin that graduated from Pepperdine maybe 10 years ago;
she has assured me that Pepperdine U. is not an armed camp!
She said that one of her best courses there was taught by Ben Stein.
As for a Nazarene school...you might have been thinking of Point Loma
Nazarene. I think Dr. James Dobson (Focus On The Family) was
an undergrad there.

There was a time in this country when a husband could beat a wife unconscious and would only get a reprimand by the doctor at the hospital. I hope those days never return. Now, a wife can kill her husband in cold blood, and she gets the therapist’s couch and a bottle of pills. I think we have reversed the order and added cream on the top.

While our media followed the travails of privileged, spoiled brat, Paris Hilton, Mary Winkler got away with murder in Tennessee.
To: navysealdad
I think that is DISGUSTING. He didn’t even get to tell his side of the story, to stand up for himself, and the judge bought it? His parents are right — she killed him again by slandering him. And I hope the parents get custody. I mean, how sick, the children stay with the parent who killed the other parent??
Caught in the act/ that is different. Murder while sleeping .... How about using your words? How about just filing for a divorce? Boy, if that were MY son I’d be fried too.
