The RSPCA has criticised the Townsville City Council for a producing a stubby holder promoting "cane toad golf" as a highlight of living in north Queensland.
The beer holder is part of a $270,000 council promotional campaign, which is designed to build community pride.
RSPCA spokesman Michael Beattie says it is irresponsible.
"The RSPCA acknowledges the fact that the cane toad needs to be eliminated ideally but simply whacking a few with golf clubs doesn't work," he said.
"Nine times out of ten the cane toad will simply get up and hop away."
The Mayor of Townsville Tony Mooney says he does not want anyone to be offended by the campaign and steps will be taken to sort the matter out.

Why don't they just use .22 shorts or shotshells?
What?
No guns in Australia?

"Nine times out of ten the cane toad will simply get up and hop away." You need a couple of lessons from the course's pro then. He can also fix your problem slicing the toad to the right.

THe RSPCA there is an absolute joke, the cane toads have eliminated something like 90% of the native species in that area. Thousands of domestic animals are killed each year from cane toad toxin exposure. Anything and everything that can be done to limit cane toad populations should be promoted.

“Australian cane toads are not a good thing.”
In that case they are varmints, so they need to go. I like the little toads around my property and wish I had more.
