Report: Courtney Love Offered Spot on American Idol Judges Panel

Us Weekly reports that rocker-turned-general-use-famous-person Courtney Love has received The Call from American Idol's producers, inviting her to hold forth on the lack of musical ability on display at the planet's favorite talent show of the damned:

"He called," Love tells Usmagazine.com. "He was wondering if I was interested. I thought it was kind of weird but brilliant."

Is FOX lining up a replacement for slap-happy Paula Abdul, or just looking to spice up the show with the always-entertaining rocker/actress?

Love, who is currently in L.A. recording a solo album, declined to reveal any more specific details.

But a source tells Usmagazine.com that Lythgoe was considering having Love "replace Paula."

Whether the Idol team intends for Love to "replace Paula" or merely serve as a guest arbiter, she does seem like an inspired choice:

While the judges' panel has never lacked for incoherent, rambling, and seemingly drug-addled evaluations of its hopeful stars during Abdul's tenure, it's always been missing the threat that one of them might snap, succumbing to the whispers of the demon voices by assaulting a particularly untalented singer with those conspicuously placed red Coca-Cola cups.

My favorite Courtney Love moment was when she talked about how Al Gore once approached her and said that he was a big fan of her music. So she asked Al, "Ok, name one of my songs." And of course Al couldn't.

Who better to judge losers on their lack of musical talent than a loser with a lack of musical talent?

***inviting her to hold forth on the lack of musical ability on display***

So who would inform Love of this?

This is a blatant ploy to make Paula Abdul look sober by comparison.

I have a copy of Love's original demo track from EPA back from like '93 or so.

This release wasn't professionally cleaned up in post production.

It is just horribly bad, not in a good way like old CBGB's bad, it is just straight out off key, off beat, with an out of tune bass guitar. This is the real ability of Love, everything past that was stage makeup.

American Idol was once a wholesome show, is Love even straight sober?
I don't recall any instance of her appearing in public while sober in the last 7 years.

Wouldn't someone with genuine musical talent be better? Like Alicia Keys (who would also be much easier on the eyes)? ;)

I would be sad to see Paula go. And Courtney Love is supposed to be an improvement? What an insult to Paula.
