Probably one of the most amazing finishes in the history of high school football. Plano East High School (North Dallas suburb), down 41 - 17 to John Tyler with 2 minutes and 42 seconds left in the game, starts an amazing comeback to with a TD and three straight successful onside kicks. With 24 seconds remaining the unthinkable happens.

You have to see it for yourself. You WILL NOT believe it!

Just AMAZING!

You will notice that the game was played at Texas Stadium in Irving, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

This reminds me of our (Princeton High School) final regular season game vs. Cincinnati powerhouse Moeller High School in the fall of 1978. Both teams were undefeated and met for the opportunity to advance to the Ohio State championship playoffs. Going into the game Moeller had won three straight Ohio state championships and had like a 40 game winning streak overall.

With about 1 minute left in the game and with Moeller up 12 - 10 our junior QB, Gary Nagel, led a drive down the field with a number of unbelieveable catches by our receivers. With just seconds left our kicker, Ken Webber (who didn’t have an athletic bone in his body), wins the game with a 37 yard field goal that barely clears the goal post and lands into the Moeller band just beyond the endzone. This ended Moeller’s long winning streak and we went onto beat both Berea and Sandusky to win state that year.

From that vaunted 1978 Moeller team TE Tony Hunter went on to play for the Buffalo Bills and LB Bob Crable to the New York Jets. Bob Crable is currently the head coach at Moeller High School.

University of Colorado at Michigan back in 1994

With 6 seconds left in the game CU QB Kordell Stewart throws a 70 yard 'Hail Mary' into the endzone that gets tipped up into the air by Colorado WR Blake Anderson and gathered in by Michael Westbrook for TD and a miracle 27 - 26 victory over the Wolverines.

This one never gets old!

I was watching this game LIVE in our entertainment room. When Westbrook made the catch I jumped up and yelled "TOUCHDOWN!" and our cat 'Rocky' went running out of the room so fast he was a blur.

Wow!

Even more fun than watching that incredible finish is listening to the announcers.

"Bingo Bango, Bongo"

"Dad Gummit, thata way to go."

"They're gonna win, Break out the Oreos"

"He scored, Good God Almighty!"

"24 Seconds left, I'm gonna wet my britches"

"Oh my Gosh, no. God Bless those kids. I am sick, I'm gonna throw up."

And of course, what would a Texas High School football game be without a quarterback named Bubba?

It was a great video. Thanks for posting it.

The Dallas Morning News just reprinted a story recalling this great game -

Tyler John Tyler fullback Marc Broyles drags a pair of Plano East defenders in a game that would receive and ESPY in 1995 for Showstopper of the Year. John Tyler went on to win the Class 5A Division II state title.

Harvard-Yale 1968. Now that was a game. Harvard was down 16 with 42 seconds left and came back to tie the game with no time remaining. (No overtime in those days.)

Tom Lehrer,a satirist and comedian, composed a team song for Harvard's football team some time ago...

"Fight fiercely,Harvard....fight,fight,FIGHT....demonstrate to them our skill! Hurl that spheroid down the field....."
