The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Posted on 12/01/2006 12:55:15 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Kewl!

That's something you never get too grown-up to enjoy. ;-)

I should get a picture of ours. It's vey boring except for the star on top, which is vaguely hideous.

Brr. Cold and flurrying here.

The 2006 ExGeeEye Tree

Tree and lights: Artificial 6-ft tree pre-strung with mini multi-color lights.

Topper: Star-shaped with several clear lights.

Garland: gold foil.

Ornamentation: Shiny balls, satin balls with glitter, shapes in blown glass and glitter, tchotchkies of various kinds including a keychain from Jerusalem, and assorted candy canes, placed by my adopted niece and nephew.

Like I said, hideous is good, in a twisted sort of way. ;-)

Mmm...flurries...

At least it's not raining here. And I'm rewriting, which makes me happy except that I realize I have basically a good four or five months of steady work ahead before there's any chance of getting this thing together. And I'm not very steady about it.

I decided to stick to tacky and not take it too seriously

Hey, what you callin' tacky? Looks like our tree on any given Christmas! Actually, it's a cute tree!

We have an eclectic assortment of ornaments from all over, and I love putting them on the tree and remembering where and when we got each one. I'm not into 'designer' trees that keep to a theme; too boring!

I actually like the really hideous giant bulbs and that.

Have you seen that commercial where the Mom plugs in the tree and is so proud showing it to her family? The kid asked why the bulbs are so large, and she says it's a new style called 'Retro'! LOL!

I like those really HUGH bulbs; we used them on our big evergreen outside for many years until the critters started chewing through the wires and ruined them. Bah!

Lovely!! We're not getting our big tree and decorations out of the trailer. I have a little 4' tree in a white decorative wooden box that I'm going to decorate with white and multicolor lights and some silk flowers. I won't have time to do a lot of decorating this year. We're trying to get the bulk of the kitchen re-model done before Christmas; at least get the appliances in place!

So, I'm up way too late, but I just caught the beginning of "Cocoon." I'd forgotten the dolphins welcomed the aliens.

But they didn't sing "So long and thanks for all the fish."

Heh...

I don't know that I've ever seen that, actually. Is it bad in a good way?

I bought that DVD for cheap a few months ago. Haven't even watched it yet. I'll wait for Clare to come home for Christmas, then we'll watch it.

'zackly

Amazingly I'm still arguing over on the blogs about Jim Webb dissin' the President at the reception. Apparently the libs never learned the first rule of children's birthday parties.

"Don't throw cake and always thank your host/hostess."

They look past the fact that Webb went to the reception with a chip on his shoulder and purposely avoided the receiving line. And they somehow think that the President asking "How's your boy" is an insult because the President had been briefed about Webb's son's close call a couple of weeks back.

It's like arguing with tofu.
