In this world of pain, confusion and question, today we give pause. We don’t today focus on the half empty cup but rather CHOSE to look at the joy of life, the blessings of life and the friendships of life.

Today we give thanks to God for his gift of life & blessings in this troubled world.

We give thanks to friends and family for the gifts of friendship and joy they share with us

Today is day ONE of the LONG 4-day Thanksgiving Weekend here at the Singles Thread.

We are thankful that Jim & John Robinson have given us a cozy cyber room in the forum for us to chat.

Our singles “family” is diverse & NOT without internal problems. But we are doing our best to be here for our friends of all ages & all walks of life. If you are single or a friend of any of us, you are most welcome to drop in & chat & share. The doors will be open all weekend to visit.

May our God keep all in His protective love.

Whether with a group or alone, whether at home or traveling , whether content or troubled, may TODAY be a day of peace & of reflection of the blessings we do have.

Feel free to share your greetings, graphics, joys, pains. This is a thread of openness & friendship & sharing.

I am grateful for many things this day..my God, my family, my friends, but profoundly grateful I was born in America. I am thankful to my president for his leadership and the fine example in marriage he provides. I am thankful for the troops who are serving and far from the homes & families that today have an empty seat. I love my country

Dolly.

Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He's given

Let the poor say "I am rich"
Because of what the Lord has done for us

but of the glory that remains.
Go outside into the fields, nature and the sun,

Thanksgiving Day, 2006

A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America

As Americans gather with family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving Day, we give thanks for the many ways that our Nation and our people have been blessed.

The Thanksgiving tradition dates back to the earliest days of our society, celebrated in decisive moments in our history and in quiet times around family tables. Nearly four centuries have passed since early settlers gave thanks for their safe arrival and pilgrims enjoyed a harvest feast to thank God for allowing them to survive a harsh winter in the New World. General George Washington observed Thanksgiving during the Revolutionary War, and in his first proclamation after becoming President, he declared November 26, 1789, a national day of "thanksgiving and prayer." During the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln revived the tradition of proclaiming a day of thanksgiving, reminding a divided Nation of its founding ideals.

At this time of great promise for America, we are grateful for the freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution and defended by our Armed Forces throughout the generations. Today, many of these courageous men and women are securing our peace in places far from home, and we pay tribute to them and to their families for their service, sacrifice, and strength. We also honor the families of the fallen and lift them up in our prayers.

Our citizens are privileged to live in the world's freest country, where the hope of the American dream is within the reach of every person. Americans share a desire to answer the universal call to serve something greater than ourselves, and we see this spirit every day in the millions of volunteers throughout our country who bring hope and healing to those in need. On this Thanksgiving Day, and throughout the year, let us show our gratitude for the blessings of freedom, family, and faith, and may God continue to bless America.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim Thursday, November 23, 2006, as a National Day of Thanksgiving. I encourage all Americans to gather together in their homes and places of worship with family, friends, and loved ones to reinforce the ties that bind us and give thanks for the freedoms and many blessings we enjoy.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this sixteenth day of November, in the year of our Lord two thousand six, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-first.

GEORGE W. BUSH

My first thank you is to Finest FRiend and HTML mentor Billie. I always hesitate to ping her. She is busy, has dial up(and thus mutters softly as things open or FAIL to open) and has a keen eye to find my boo-boos.

Thank you Ms. Billie for your friendship & your help & encouragement. You are a wonderful friend to so many here at Free Republic & we don't thank you often enough!

May your day with loved ones be a blessing.

Beautiful posting as usual Dolly! I am really thinking about trying the 2 hour roasting method for the turkey today. Have any of you all tried it? My biggest concern with cooking at a high temp is splatter in my oven.

I will appreciate any input. I still have an hour or so to make up my mind :-)

It has been a LONG time since I did turkey myself.. I recall years ago having good luck with the cooking bags for flavor/moisture retention & also they were MUCH quicker.

pinging snugs who does goose & might be able to help

Thank you for the kudos! I really enjoy doing this when I have the time

hope you & Charlie & Andy have a great first Thanksgiving as a "family"

Suggest that you cover the bird with foil the heat will still get through but you will not get as much splatter, Also drain after about 1/2 an hour and then about 3/4 so that the fat that has drained will not burn and cause smokey splatter.

But wrapping in foil will help a lot. If you like the skin crisp you can also take foil offer for the last 20 mins or so to crisp.
