urgent - immediate broadcast requested Tornado Watch number 868 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1045 am EST Thu Nov 16 2006
The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a Tornado Watch for portions of
District of Columbia Delaware much of Maryland eastern North Carolina southern and central New Jersey southeast Pennsylvania much of eastern Virginia coastal waters
Effective this Thursday morning and evening from 1045 am until 600 PM EST.
Tornadoes... hail to 1.5 inches in diameter... thunderstorm wind gusts to 80 mph... and dangerous lightning are possible in these areas.
The Tornado Watch area is approximately along and 85 statute miles east and west of a line from 45 miles northwest of Wilmington Delaware to 40 miles southeast of Jacksonville North Carolina. For a complete depiction of the watch see the associated watch outline update (wous64 kwns wou8).
Remember... a Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.

Discussion... very strong shear profiles in place across mid Atlantic states to support tornadic supercells. Moisture and instability continues to spread rapidly nwd E of Appalachians. Lines of thunderstorms with embedded supercells will continue to develop newd across watch area thru the afternoon. Along with the tornado threat associated with the supercells... damaging winds will be likely.
Aviation... tornadoes and a few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft to 1.5 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 70 knots. A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 500. Mean storm motion vector 22045.

This is a result of Democrats counter clockwise "spin". To protect our capitol the Republicans must "spin" more in a clockwise direction.
